Is 5,000 our glass ceiling?

Shouldn’t have mentioned it should I lol. I’ll send them back with Harvey Griffiths

What thoroughly depressing reading this table is…

This club really was sleeping walking into an oblivion both on the field and off it. Will always be so thankful for Trivela

The hours I spent trying to illustrate how far we were regressing compared to modern football and other clubs

Yes you were right and I was wrong on this. I regret I didn’t realise how far the “ gate” table we had gone.

Like me, you will remember when we were struggling to get 3,000 through the turnstiles, when Crewe were often below 2,000 and when Tranmere, who routinely played on Friday evenings, were getting gates around 1600.

Morecambe, on Saturday, had more fans in than I recall seeing in the past so if they can do it, so can we.

I think we will pick up fans, gradually, but this will take time.

I do remember that. I think our gates will now gradually grow and if we get promotion I would hope for a decent jump in the numbers attending.

I believe their previous CEO helped drive some of that. Maybe we can tap him up for innovative ideas.

So long as you don’t want to pay in cash…:frowning:

I guess we are due the Early Bird details soon. It was 22nd February last year it was announced. This is a huge chance for the club to capitalise on the on-field success, so I’m hoping for something a bit radical to help boost bums on seats for next season.

I was thinking the same, need to freeze prices I think and then as you say do something a bit different capitalise on things whilst we’re where we are.

I agree - a combination of a great early bird offer, our fantastic league position and promotion chances and concerted efforts to keep our fantastic young players on board for next season would put bums on seats and continue to build the momentum.

Perhaps releasing the early bird and the normal ticket prices at the same time would be a good idea. To know how much people will save… Freeze Early bird and modest increase in typical prices.

Alongside all the other incentives listed above!

IF we were to freeze prices, and I don’t for a moment think we will. It will likely lead to a real terms reduction in revenue for the playing budget at least from income from early bird sales. Consider the club has looming over it the impact of the new employers national insurance contributions, a substantial national minimum wage increase, and general inflation (including a more than modest rise in energy prices from a year ago). On the existing playing staff we may havre players with wage increases automatically factored in on promotion and any existing contracts we wish to renegotiate will likely be higher due to our status as a L1 club. Average audiences have increased this season but despite the superb season we’ve had those increases haven’t been huge so I’m not sure how the club can freeze early bird prices which are a vital source of revenue and maintain a competitive, indeed an increased playing budget for next season.

Anyone able to do the maths on how many tickets we would need to shift to maintain the same revenue if they were cost reduced by 5%?

5k?

What was the initiative used prior to COVID by Pomlett? Sell so many and price goes down?

Yep, this is what I’d love to see. Speculate to accumulate.

It’s impossible for us to do the maths on exact figures without knowing previous sales totals in each price band. But for arguments sake:

£380 ave. price x 3500 sales = £1.33m
£332.50 ave. price x 4000 sales = £1.33m
£295.55 ave. price x 4500 sales = £1.33m
£266 ave. price x 5000 sales = £1.33m

That’s quality. Be a really innovative initiative and would encourage more people to hassle family and friends to buy in. Especially if the end ticket price difference is refunded back or offset.

I think a lot depends on how our other revenue streams have performed .Advertising boards, banqueting, The Locker are three examples. If revenue from those sources has increased we may be able to hold prices steady or increase them marginally. I can see the argument for zero increases but at the same time we need a competitive budget whichever division we are in next season.

Let’s not forget prices have been bumped up significantly over the past few years already. So has pretty much everything else you buy at the ground, like drink and food, which should be taken into account when working out figures.

I’m expecting a rise, but will wait and see if they take the piss or not. If we keep getting and accepting big rises, it will be unaffordable to the average family in not many years time.

5 percent, double inflation or thereabouts, would be acceptable and hopefully not put many off. The really big rise of a couple of years ago was damaging and hopefully not repeated

Its a balancing act in my opinion - can see why they might consider hiking prices - but need to be careful not to price out ordinary fans and families. And to offer decent value compared to our neighbours in higher divisions
