So if the rumours about gambling are true, and going off the ban that they handed down to Ivan Toney of 8 months, we’ll be lucky to see Jellis play this season.
Explains a lot we how things have been going for him
That’s his season over!
The alleged offences took place between 30 April 2019 and 04 July 2023.
So when he was playing in the National League (North / South) (level 6).
Crumbs
I’m glad he has the clubs full support.
Begs the question why he’s has been playing in pre-season when he’s unlikely to be available for the forthcoming campaign or a substantial amount of it.
That probably explains his demeanour as reported on here. I hope he can prove his innocence as we might well need 3 midfielders instead of 2!
Not his biggest fan as documented, but it’s starting to get more and more ridiculous how many players have an issue/compulsion to bet considering the conditions they operate in, and the punishments handed out in comparison to other offences.
Oh well. Looks like we may need another midfielder on top of the couple we already needed
So from when he was 18 until 22, as a part time footballer.
I would hope the authorities take that into account and show a bit of common sense.
Innocent until proved guilty?
Could explain why his form dropped off last season. Must have seen it coming
I bet he did
Good points. I hope so too but it is the FA who we are dealing with here.
George Bennett reporting:
Walsall midfielder Jamie Jellis has been charged by the FA for allegedly breaching betting rules. It’s alleged that Jellis placed 2,248 bets on football matches between April 30, 2019 and July 4, 2023.
That’s the last we see of him given his case for appeal needs to be in by 28th July, he will not be in the right mindset to be out on the pitch with this over his head… opposition fans will have a field day with this news … “ Top of the league and Jellis had a bet we would f**k it up”… suspect Wycombe “due diligence” discovered this and they backed away at pace!!! … just 2/3 midfielders needed now then ![]()
Crikey…the lad needs help…no wonder his form has dipped.
Surely being as he wasn’t even professional at the time that has to be taken into account ?
He wasn’t a pro footballer
Looking at when it happened, to me it begs the question how did it come to light a couple of years later, has he been dropped in it by someone ??
Also if there has been no betting since those dates and no one can prove that he hasn’t stopped surely a case for reduced punishment, especially as part time amateur footballer at the time, perhaps this is why the club have played him in pre season
That’s an average of about 1.5 bets a day. That’s an addiction.
