Jamie Jellis: Club Statement

Why should we pay his wages though as he wasn’t with us at the time and it’s his fault?

The rules cover step 4 and up.

Over 2000 alledged offences which equates to multiple bets per game per season.

I’m afraid this could be a career ending ban for the lad - i.e multiple years.

If so, what a waste of a talent, and a big big shame for the lad.

Yep. If he was drinking every single day of his life you’d say it was at least a problem, if not an addiction.

The rules only cover games that he was involved in, could affect or provide inside information on. You’d imagine the allegations therefore involve the club he was at - so placing multiple bets per game, rather than a bet every day.

Because it would cost us a hell of a lot more in charges from the court of arbitration for sport, and to be honest, I’d think much less of the club if they didn’t support a player that may or may not have a serious issue.

Also might be why no one did a deal for him

These are the possible sanctions, taken from the Ryan Bowman written reasons document. The severity very much depends on whether he has bet on his own team at any point. However they are only guidelines and can be increased or decreased.

Not so. Players down to level 8 are not allowed to bet on any football, whether their team are involved at all.

The most important thing is that Jamie gets the help he needs.

I find punishing anyone with an addiction disgusting to be honest. I understand he’s in the wrong. But surely educating and rehabilitating is more effective.

What a shite situation.

I have edited this post because I did not understand the meaning of the Steps in the football pyramid.

I still have hope for Jellis, because of the examples I posted earlier where players were dealt with leniently.

I’d imagine he was - else why charge him?

So this started when he was 18
Playing non league football and in the period he was betting he only played 50 games max

Harsh really

Where it says step 5, it doesn’t mean outside the EFL - step 5 is the division below the Northern Premier League West / Midland divisions, see the division below Chasetown, Darlaston, Sporting Khalsa etc. Locally, it’s the Midland League.

Especially when those involved are more than happy to take the dollar off betting companies themselves and the players have to advertise it every weekend.

Thanks for posting that.Clearly a lot depends on whether he betted in matches he was involved in playing.

Hope he is ok and the FA are not to harsh on him. He was a part time footballer on about £300 a week at the time.

Oh Jamie - really feel for the lad. Loads of folk do daft things at 18. Hope that this gets cleared soon and we don’t lose him for too long.

I have corrected my previous post.

I would imagine a gambler is a gambler, so I think there may well be other allegations to follow.
