Amazing how clubs like Newport aren’t affected by the pandemic!!!
I’m fuming this morning. Pathetic.
Melbourne will be decent. This Yaw lad reminds of the Shaibu signing.
Promotion ambitions!
For a club that talks incessantly about play offs and promotion that doesn’t look like ambitious business to me.
Didn’t Newport get a massive windfall with a good cup run last year?
We didn’t. That’s the difference.
Play offs
Makes me laugh every time I hear it
The loans are okay for me, the Melbourne lad should be decent enough, this Osei could be good, at least he’s got some pace. I think people are too dismissive of loans but I understand why, we haven’t used the market well in recent years.
Regardless of intention or need, this is a PR disaster for the club and it will be interesting how they handle it. I wouldn’t be surprised if its the old “silence” route.
If the 100k rumoured for Jules is true there is no way you can say no to that anyway.
Underwhelmed, but it’s no shock is it, and we all saw it coming. Not sure if that makes it any sadder or not.
Apparently we had a late bid turned down for Barry Corr from Cambridge. DC was planning to play this forward line at Southend.
Yaw, Corr, Reid and Wright.
I agree. And this is why I also agree Pomlett needs to be more transparent about what has gone on and needs to go on or he could risk losing a lot of support within the fan base.
I’ve no doubt there are good reasons for doing as they are but they need to explain not just keep quiet and expect fans to not question things.
Basically don’t revert back to the Bonser regime way of keeping fans in the dark and expecting them to just turn up and hand over their money.
Exactly of course they don’t that chart put up on here was miles off no one is on more than a grand a week down there or at least they were not 12 months ago
Scrimshaw: No real loss, had a good 20 minutes against Port Vale, he run around abit, but won’t score goals.
Nurse: Would still be here if Bristol didn’t have injuries of their own, so that’s an unfortunate loss.
George: Was only loaned in as cover and nothing more, like Scrimshaw, no loss.
Guthrie: Highest earner off the books, could only play one game a month and all of our fans wanted him gone anyway.
Jules and Adebayo: Both out of contract in 3 months, to get 300k for them in this climate is good business by the club, yes they’ll be big losses for the rest of this season, but the club did the right thing.
In
Wright: Looked good against Vale, Holden back soon and with Nolan playing well, we’ve got some good options on the right now.
Reid: Like George and Scrimshaw, loaned in as cover.
Osei: Oxford fans say he is decent player, so the negativity around his signing is only because of the departure of Adebayo.
Vincent: Looked tidy against Vale, should get game time now Guthrie has gone.
Melbourne: Like Osei, Lincoln fans say he’s good and the negativity around his signing is only because Jules has left and he’s been replaced by a loan.
Agree.
Plus, without Eli, we might keep it on the deck more.
How much information do we need though? We know about the pandemic, we know about redundancies, it’s pretty obvious we’re not flush. If the information we need is what Bonsor/the pension fund has done, how does it help? If Bonsor has helped it won’t change the view of him or the ongoing issue regarding the freehold/rent etc. If he hasn’t helped it will be all Pomlett is in it with him. I like Pomlett. I think some people think the fans should see the monthly management accounts!
Problem is, the wage bill isn’t the only outgoing.
Which is why P.T.’s questions about the rent and what help we’re getting with it are very relevant.
If the leech is still sucking out as much as he can get, giving a very small rent decrease or just giving a holiday and expecting it all to be repaid in future we could still be treading a thin line financially.
Especially as all the income from The Venue and other non-footballing income is basically nil at the moment.
Didn’t Pomlett claim we pay one of the lowest rents in the football league?
Take a bow sir
I think he said there are other clubs in similar situations who pay more. To be honest i don’t pay much attention to other clubs situations.
Well you should. Because that’s what matters, comparability. Your performance compared to other teams is exactly what gets you up or down a division.
Yes Covid will have hit the club. Just like it will have hit the other 91 clubs in the football league.
Yes we have to pay rent. Just like majority of the other clubs in the football league and supposedly at a favourable rate to comparable clubs.
Comparatively, we’ve sold our best striker and to my mind best defender. Not many other clubs in our division have had to do that.
Perhaps in the minority but I have no real problem with what happened last night.
Two lads out of contract in the Summer were sold - and it seems we held our nerve a little better than previous, with the size of the fees received.
Guthrie was finished at Professional level the day he signed for us and whatever the budgetary saving, it’s best for everyone concerned.
And now the really important part…said on many occasions the Season is finished and we’re not good enough. And I hope to see a new Manager in place come the Summer. Therefore I am relieved there were no cash signings - because I don’t trust DC’S judgement. He can take the plaudits for Ade and Jules but also the disproportionate heap of dross he has bought into the Club. So for me, the complete absence of Keates-esque panic 3 year contracts (Norman and Scarr) is a relief.
To summarise, give whatever proceeds are available in the Summer - to the NEW Manager.
I use the league table to compare. That’s it’s purpose.
