Yeah and we’re at the lowest point in it we have been for the best part of 26 years.
True. But we’re under a new regime ( which took over after relegation to the lower level) and I’m prepared to give him time.
Depends what clubs we’re being compared to.
Just because things look the same on the outside you don’t know what their financial situation is behind the scenes.
Also some clubs may pay more rent than we do but if those clubs are “big” clubs with a much bigger income to pay their higher rent it’s not really comparable is it?
The ones you cropped out of my response:
Of course. As am I (What choice do we have anyway?)
But selling your best players and replacing them with might be good/might be shite free loans doesn’t chime with the message he’s been putting out, even post covid.
It’s far more relevant at a time like this where the club has been asking fans to keep last seasons season ticket money in the club, fans are fundraising to help the club and we’re approaching normal season ticket selling time for next season where they’ll likely ask fans to put in more money.
Fans want to know that everyone is doing their bit.
Tbh I’m not arsed about how comparable our rent is to someone else’s. The situation, until it changes, is what it is. Should i be studying all the accounts from clubs in league 1 and 2, deciding which clubs are comparable and deeming if we are doing well? I’ll look at the league tables
And if Bonsor isn’t? We don’t support Pomlett?
You said comparable clubs but when Pomlett said other clubs he could have meant in general.
Well if you’re going to keep blaming all our woes on rent, probably
We should support Pomlett but if there is silence it will be taken as a sign Bonser isn’t and so many fans will decide to not anyway.
Well if he did that was a stupid statement anyway.
Because it’s a pretty big elephant in the room which isn’t going away.
I can’t be arsed lol. It is what it is. I enjoy the football, not dissecting accounts. I hope it gets sorted obviously.
Only if we’re going to keep using the same tired, played out, overblown excuses for the club being in the position it’s in for ever more.
We’ve paid rent for years, we’ve competed at a higher level than this for years.
We pay rent just like most other clubs. One thing I do agree with Pomlett on, our fans are way too hung up on it.
Would be interesting to know how many other clubs in the division (at least those who can still make the top seven) cashed in on key players during the window knowing that they had six months left on a contract.
If it’s agent culture or the pandemic and it’s happening across the lower leagues fair enough, but if not that suggests a problem with the way we operate in comparison to other teams at our level, whether that be in terms of wages or how we approach contract renewals.
Maybe, however we enjoy revenue streams they don’t - motorway signage and major main sponsor/ partner for example. Newport are sponsored by a print studio in the City.
Thing is I have no real problem cashing in on Adebayo or Jules. And I think until now Adebayo was our player of the season by an absolute mile. You have to be realistic about where we are as a club. If people offer 100K plus for any of our players they are probably on their way. That’s just how it is.
What worries me is that instead of replacing them by spending some of that on proven players we’ve rolled the dice on loans again. A tactic that hasn’t worked for years. Proven player cost I get that, but we’re talking about league two here not somebody that’s been in the Premier League for years.
Agree, as they were both going for free in the summer anyway. But we are in a better position to negotiate fees if the player is under a longer contract. That was certainly the case with George Dobson for example.
