L 3-1 vs Notts County (H) - League Two - Sat 13th April, 3pm

I think we should all agree that there will be several canaries dying of asphyxiation down a controlled mine environment if Sadler gives Dougie, Matt and Gordon new contracts.

Surely not… if he does… then I’ll be really frustrated.

Taylor deserves a decent contract. We’ve spent a couple of years developing him into a good league 2 left sided centre back and I’ll be gutted if he leaves now. Walsall lad too.

I think you might need to make sure your breathing apparatus is functioning.

Mid table here we come!

On a completely different note - great win for GB v France in the Billie-Jean Cup.
Katie and Emma doing us proud.

Another thing…

Think this was made by another user earlier but I really hadn’t thought of this until now… needs highlighting.

Supposedly…

The reason why Sadler doesn’t like DJ is because of work rate and closing down/press…

But hang on a minute.

He plays Jamille Matt (without fail) when ‘fit’ who can’t run, doesn’t chase anything down, doesn’t run around pressing and tackling, doesn’t move quickly… sort of ambles about.

Can anyone explain that to me? Because it’s actually a really good point.

… and just to clarify / this is not about hold up play, headers etc… I am just talking about work rate and the press/closing down.

Why is it ok for Matt and not DJ?

I am saying us or any team would not have created so many chances if they were being outplayed , smashed or chasing shadows for the whole game, and that the oppositions 2 most effective forward threats would have had so comparatively little contribution either.

We all see things differently

Foulkes has had some difficult moments this season, but to me there is something there to work with. Wing back is a really difficult position. I thought today, especially second half, the lad tried to push us forwards even at difficult moments in the game. He is one of the only players at the club that can put a decent cross in.

If we want to keep playing with wing-backs, I doubt we will get much better than him as back up, and he may well go on to be a lot better with more time and experience.

It is a good question. I think perhaps because Matt can hold the ball up and lay it off and occupy defenders in a physical way.

He’s also a help at set pieces both defensively and offensively.

But I agree when it comes to closing down/pressing he’s a weak link. And I think if you want to play like that you need all front players harrying and chasing, because otherwise the opposition can have a breather.

Maybe those who have been conditioned by the club to accept mid table as Div 4 as acceptable.

No play offs equals a huge failure.

He had a good game overall today if you remove his crossing attempts. Something he needs to work on for sure. I still think its something we need to get in the summer though.

I agree he has potential but it seemed as though he wanted to get a ball in at the earliest opportunity today and the results were no better than ‘The Tom Knowles Random Cross Generator’.
Watching him against Blackburn at the start of the season, it was obvious he could deliver given time and space but he doesn’t get that at this level.

He did get a fair few early crosses wrong but there were also a couple of pearlers, one towards the end, I think Faal missed a good chance. He’s only a kid, plenty of time to improve certain aspects.

Speaking of Jellis, I note that towards the end of the game one of their hauled him back and then to the ground by his shirt. A free kick for a professional foul was all that this one eyed Ref gave. That was one of at least three instances where bad fouls were not properly punished. Perhaps the Ref used all of his quota of yellows up on the Saddlers.

Fair enough. He’s been landed with a lot of responsibility.

It would be good to get an experienced, actual RWB in the summer whom he can learn from.

Foulkes and Knowles are close off the pitch and say they push each other but it’s almost like 2 plumbers training themselves to be dentists.

Cannot see Matt starting Tuesday. Faal seems to be better as first change by his own admission.
Gordon and DJ or Gordon and DJT?
Was Gordon injured today? If so do we see DJ and DJT?

The ref was an arse. No excuse for our poor display but he failed to issue cards for fouls similar to that which he gave Comley a second yellow for.

I think J G had a ‘frank exchange of views’, with those on the bench, just before half-time.
