L 3-2 vs Brighton & Hove Albion U21’s (H) - PJT Group Stage - Tue 22nd Aug, 7pm

I thought this. An unfortunate choice of words. I will continue to boycott these games as I continue to mistrust the EPL.

Agreed. I wouldnt even call it glorified reserve football - its just reserve team football.

You can watch premier youth teams for free every weekend. The quality is good. But its just Premier League reserve and youth. Means nothing - as does this competition

Are you sure you’re not being complicit in encouraging the EPL’s plans for B Teams in the football pyramid. Their original motive was to give homegrown talent experience. Now we have non English talent playing along with over 21 players. Just don’t trust them. Each to their own but my stance makes me no lesser a true fan.

A failure of logic there. All the people who go to U21 matches are human beings. That does not mean that people who do not go to U21 matches are not human beings.

Very few moaners and groaners attend this competition. There is a good atmosphere, since the crowd is full of true supporters. That is simply a fact, and anyone who attends them can see it for themselves.

That does mean that if you do not are not attend these matches, you are not a true supporter.

Roughly 8% of the capacity of the ground is taken for these fixtures.

A good atmosphere?! Your parties must be wild

You cannot seriously think that your attendance or non-attendance will make the slightest difference to the football authorities decisions?

Shouldn’t the choice of whether or not to attend be based on more rational grounds, such as “Will I enjoy it?” and “Do I want to support my team?”

We’ve decided to go, hope for a good result but it seems when we go we never beat these under 21s.

Lol.

Love it when posters make themselves look a right plonker.

I’ll be there tonight, mainly as I have nothing else to do. I’ve always gone to the home games in this competition and I have to say I completely disagree with you regarding the atmosphere. They’re always terrible.
Sometimes the games are enjoyable - but the atmosphere is so dull. I have no idea what games you’re going to if you think these games have a good atmosphere. I know it’s subjective - but come on.

Your comment regarding true fans is also nonsense. Almost offensive. Not attending doesn’t make someone any more or less of a fan. There is no such thing as a “true” supporter. It’s bollocks. You support a team or you don’t. I have attended 2 games this season. 1 home 1 away. Am I not a true supporter!!! There are others who have been to all 5 games. Are they better supporters than me?

You’re talking nonsense. Fans like you are more toxic than the “moaners”

I’m not going as I think the competition is nigh on worthless now since the introduction of the reserve teams. While I love Walsall I do at times think overall the state of the game is more important and so choose not to attend to demonstrate this.

I have friends who attend and will continue to do so and I would never tell them they’re wrong as it’s their choice and opinion and they’re entitled to it.

Never would I, or them to me, label the other as not ‘true supporters’. Silly thing to say.

Why does everything seem to have to degenerate into a argument.
Personally I think the competition is worthwhile even if just to get squad players a competitive game.
The actual technicalities of who runs the competition is personally irrelevant to me.
It’s just a game of football to watch if you want, if you don’t no worries.

I am not going because I have an important bowls match but I would have gone if that wasn’t the case. That doesn’t make me a truer fan than those who choose not to go. It is a low key competition but it does provide players who don’t play every Saturday with some good game time. The matches against the youngster from the Premier League are usually good and the ones I have seen I have enjoyed. I hope Walsall win tonight because if we can go far in the competition the financial rewards are good. UTS.

When we had a reserve team, I used to like watching them. You could hear the players, spot new talent and sometimes talk to the keeper during play. A different experience.

I have been informed that it is on Ifollow, but you may have to be in Spain or some distant land to watch it

I think when supporters start labelling others as less of a supporter for x, y, z reason, you’re always going to get a backlash. And trying to imply it over this competition is quite frankly ludicrous.

As is so often the case these days, and as someone else has pointed out, the one labelling fans ‘moaners’ is actually the individual displaying the most toxic, divisive behaviour.

This is a forum, I think the debate here is okay?! Really dont get why people complain unless it’s tit-for-tat name calling

Great post @TomGSaddler btw

I wouldn’t label any supporter like that for not supporting this competition as I say it’s personal choice I don’t have a problem with it but if it’s not for you fine.
