L 3-2 vs Shrewsbury Town (A) - BSM Trophy Group Stage - Tue 14th Nov, 7pm

Sadler is often very positive about players - what a great guy, character etc. is this interview he says Danny is a great finisher. It’s revealing what he didn’t say and tells me there’s definitely a rift there. We probably all new that though!

I think he was quite open about the fact that he wants to play the pressing game and DJ cannot do that for 90 minutes. You may or may not agree with that but it is a fair point.

Do I detect signs of Mr Sadler winning a few fans round?

Thought it was his best post match interview so far. Agreed with much of what he said.
We are close to being a good team but we are far closer to being a poor one unfortunately especially if injuries don’t clear up loans get called back and January is the usual hortor show.

Yes, I agree and I do wonder if Sadler ever wanted DJ in the first place.

I find it interesting to observe that when DJT misses a chance, folk say it is because he is rubbish but when DJ does, it is Sadler’s fault for not picking him regularly.

I’ll repeat the point I made after the game. It says a lot for the coaching structure that a team with so many new faces can still cohere to produce the sort of pressure we saw in the last quarter of the match. That was never the case under the last few managers.

The test is how we can manage with the injuries, particularly at the back. If Stirk is out for a few weeks, we will have a seriously depleted midfield against FGR.

That’s the first time I’ve seen Matt Sadler irked.
He tends to waffle away but its obvious he was peed off that yet again we’re incapable of keeping a clean sheet.
I thought we were the better side last night and had Shrewsbury on the back foot for the first twenty minutes and most of the second half.
Johnson could easily have scored three or four although that penalty was poorly taken.
The biggest positive has to be some of the younger players who actually did ok.

I agree with a lot of that. The fact that MS hasn’t shown he is angry at some of our performances is a plus for me as I think Managers who criticise their teams publicly don’t last long .
However it was good to see him showing that he isn’t happy with some things because it gives us a glimpse of what he is saying behind closed doors

The damming thing there for me in that interview is Mat says no one knows DJ and what he can do more than me .then goes on to basically say he doesn’t fit in to the style of play pressing game he wants to play .that’s alarming in the sense he must be the only one who didn’t know from DJ ‘s previous time he that he’s not that type of player and doesn’t contribute much in that area .or he was a Trivela signing and not his so is a complete wast of the squad budget and another gapping hole in the squad .that we are having to cover with players who are not ready and on a learning curve .is it any wonder we’re we are and DJ’s dissatisfaction with the situation and unrest in the squad .all of our own making and by that a mean the people who run and own this club .

Sadler wanted 352 clearly. Which would have been less demanding physically for DJ and would probably have seen him play most of the games.
Injuries and retirement scuppered that added to the bizarre non recruitment of a RWB and an extra centre half to cover.
Will January see us address that and revert to 352?

Strange cos Pep said the same about Aguero and treated him the same way….until Aguero bought into it and everyone was happy and Pep again hailed a genius….

DJ has a choice. He’s only asking him to run. That’s not a big ask for a manager to a player no matter who you are.

No one on this forum or anywhere else is not critical of Hutchinson doesn’t run….No one’s saying “oh it’s ok he’s not that sort of player and he’s talented”….no….he’s expected, rightly so, to run.

DJ won’t be expected to track back and cover overlapping full backs but he needs to lead the press so players behind him have a chance of joining in!

If this is a battle of wills between player and manager (I hope it’s not) then I hope for the sake of every other player there and for the sake of the team that the manager wins and fair play to Sadler for sticking to his guns on it…as I’d expect any manager to do.

But we all knew that from watching DJ play the first half of last season. So the question would have to be, why sign him in the first place? It’s another example of square pegs in round holes. I think we all used to say that the only thing DJ does is score goals. Which is not a bad strengrh to have and bring to the side, by the way.

Think it would be a much easier job for mat to sign players that fit his method of play than try and convert players into something there not ie Riley , McEntee ,Allen and now DJ .who next ? if he was Pep maybe but he ain’t

Yeah I’m not saying he’s pep, just as a principle it’s not too much to ask.

This is very true and unfortunately Doug Taylor has become the fall guy, it seems some fans always have to have one and no Kinsella has gone and Hayden White have departed he’s the next one.

Many have put DJ missing chances down to ring rustiness, Doug Taylor gets far less minutes but when he misses one it’s because he’s shit.

What a joke that we finish this tournament with our first team squad being beaten by the reserves of Forest Green and Shrewsbury and Brightons Youth Team.

I bet the happy clappers still find some positives :joy:

Do you honestly think that someone like Dj that’s played in a certain way all his career and at his age to change into something else is doable it’s just not a particularly strength in his game and I don’t except it’s just a case of asking him to run .if he was a young player Like djt and your developing him into the type of player you want than yes .the truth is he was signed for the wrong reasons. DJ and the situation he finds himself in is down to poor recruitment as a whole we have a mismatch of players all over the squad .was he told when he came here what role he we would be required to play ? I feel sorry for the bloke and the circumstances he finds himself in and will not be at all surprised to see him on his way soon .

Tbf I had 1 too many sherbets last night after having yesterday and today off work. I didn’t read all the posts and I was on 1 after getting some abuse from some Shrewsbury fans I know. After watching the game again this morning my point still stands even now I’m sober/hanging. Forget dj and the attackers it’s the defence which needs sorting and fast. If he wants to save himself he needs to get this team keeping clean sheets
