Leicester City (H) - League Cup 3rd Round - Tue 24th September, 7:45pm

They were relegated that season, and only one point outside of the bottom three when we met, so they were struggling then.
If they play us in the F A Cup they get relegated, whatever the result of the match.

That’s where the club and word of mouth should push multi-tickets. Locks people into attendance, reduced cost for the fan.

As the form increases and our football becomes more attractive the fans will slowly increase, it can be accelerated.

If Ben Sadler and the board are serious about attracting and developing a fan base then they should utilise the membership scheme to provide incentives in price and matchday discounts for things.

Buy a membership and get;

  • 15% off price of two tickets.
  • 25% off four tickets.
  • 35% off six tickets.
  • Token for five friends for fiver games.

Inclusive of 15% food and drink and merch. And all the other stuff it normally comes with.

That’s exactly the type of thinking that should be taking place. Always a balance between not pissing season ticket holders off but we’re two or three thousand off having a third tier fanbase. Doesn’t sound a lot but that’s a 40 to 50% increase from where we are.

Agreed, and these initiatives should be pushed at an open day, or fan day… in advance as well of course.

Perhaps with a simple card that’s scannable through QR and then redeemable at the ticket office. Often clubs have a small membership office with a secondary role for ticket office personnel. I would pick a fixture expected to attract low numbers and place in an offer targeted at people on the email database, £10 tickets… To collect your tickets you get the offer to sign up to the membership or buy Flexi for future games at a reduced rate.

I’d go so far as to offer an extra early early bird around Christmas too with a great offer on half season tickets.

We need to do it now so should we find success in the new year we can attack it early and get our gates to a reasonable level.

I expect us to lose this, as they will field a decent team.
0-1 same as last time.
Is it on the telly box or similar?

It’s always a bit weird when a team appoints a manger who was a success/favourite at a rival club.

I’m thinking mcleish at Villa or Barnwell at Walsall. Never seems to end well, it’s almost as if the board wants someone purely to take the flak away from them.

I think we could get something out of this.

They rotated a few to tonk Tranmere in the last round, but still played a number of first teamers (either starters or on the bench). It might not be their best XI that they start with on Tuesday night, but it won’t be just squad fillers and academy players.

Some of those fringe or academy players can be very good.
We have seen the strength of a couple of Stoke City academy players this season.

Definitely no reason to assume whatever team they put out will be a weak one.

Makes me worry we could see a big number of Leicester fans in the home end. Especially upper tier.

I know this is going to sound a little naive to veterans of Saddlers+ streaming and the like, but I’m going to be in The Netherlands on Tuesday so I’ve had to give my ticket away.

Any tips on how to watch the game?

I don’t think there’s anything to worry about on that score.

The reason lots of EPL and big championship clubs sell out for games like this is to maintain away loyalty points. Depending upon how tickets manifest for Leicester fans (I.e physical/digital etc) I’m guessing hundreds will have been passed on whilst the original purchaser has maintained their away loyalty points. Obviously buying tickets in our end won’t help with that.

As the game has got more popular, with barely an empty seat in EPL home ends, away ends have tended to shrink and so the “away loyalty points” systems have grown to the point that missing one game often means you’re onwardly stuffed if you want to go to away games.

Live out the area, but coming up for the game.
How’s it looking weatherwise ?

I don’t believe the video stream is available on Saddlers+ as all EFL Cup games are part of the Sky deal. It will be on Sky Sports+ though, so if you have access to a Sky box over there you should be able to find it on the red button (as it’s not their main featured game), or alternatively on the Sky Sports app (not sure if you need a VPN to appear to be in the UK for that like you do with BBC iPlayer when abroad).

BTW It is the Sky Sports app you need, not the Sky Sports Scores one (although you are able to access the highlights video on both afterwards). Also, I have a Sky Sports subscription via my Virginmedia package so am able to access any of their content on both apps anyway with my login. I believe you can sign up for a free account for the Scores app (you used to be able to anyway) but I think you need a paid subscription for the main Sports app (at least for the live streams).

From other posts on the subject, if you don’t have/want a Sky subscription then you are also able to stream Sky Sports+ games on a pay-per-view basis via Now TV (again, not sure if you’d need a VPN to appear to be in the UK). Not my field of expertise though so will leave it to others to explain.

The reason you might need a VPN is due to licensing restrictions by the content providers (trying to force you to subcribe to your local provider even if you can find the same content from an overseas provider more cheaply). If you haven’t already got one, there are several out there but nearly all charge, or only offer very restrictive access for free. I’d recommend Windscribe as their free account offering gives you 10GB per month (per account - based on your e-mail address, so if you have more than 1 of those …) which is more than enough for a full game even at full 4K resolution. Their paid subscription rates aren’t too bad compared to others either, and I’ve never had an issue with the quality of their servers.

Looks like it’ll still be raining in Walsall till 5pm today then fine the rest of the day and tomorrow.

Given our recent history and the amount of rain that’s come down over the weekend, I’d say there’s a possibility of a postponement.

Been very wet. Forecast better today than it was, not rained this morning but did in the night, due to rain again later for a few hours then dry tomorrow. I wouldn’t foresee any issues personally given the dry day tomorrow and the relatively dry period that we’ve had before this weekend.

Saying that Wimbledon v Newcastle postponed!

Apparently the area in and around the Wimbledon ground flooded over the weekend damaging infrastructure and the pitch. So not a usual waterlogged postponement.
I think we will be fine for tomorrow

Just seen a picture on another thread on here - yeah different issues to the pitch just being a bit wet

Think I would be playing

Hornby to keep him motivated and bench Simkin as cover for injuries

Barrett and keep Uncy Albert on the bench and have options where to play him

Allen and keep Weir on the bench as back up

Jellis and bench Maher and keep him for when legs tire

DJ definitely starts in my book Lowe needs a rest but on the bench

Earing to start for some initial creativity and bring fireman Lakin on when we need fresh legs
