Newport County (A) Monday April 21st, 12.30pm

As I understand it the loan players can play for us. What they couldn’t do for example in Asimwe’s case is return to Charlton and play for them in the playoffs as the loan runs until the next player registration date.

I like Asiimwe and hope that we can sign him.

Charlton are on a brilliant run and they might be interested in doing at least another loan deal if they’re playing in the championship next season.

It would be worth a cheeky offer for Gassan Ahadme, if they’re interested in Jellis in the summer…

Good performance today but in truth I’m gutted.

We just needed that little bit of luck. Yes it was handball - but guesswork from the officials after one of the Newport players complained.

Adomah is a great player - no question. But he’s not a striker. DJ likely nails that header.

Simpkin MOTM - the lad looked good and made a great save.

The wait for a win goes on.

Back to the game today.

Had the chance to think about it.

The issue today was trying to play a style of football that these players have not been coached how to play.

We had a box midfield with Chang and Stirk behind the advanced two of Adomah and Jellis.

The way we changed to try and play more of a patient passing game - makes me think someone from Trivela (Jordan), Waddock, or ROK has had a word.

We looked ok first 10/15 mins with Chang and Stirk dictating play in our half… but you could tell, there was absolutely no plan when we got into the Newport half. We tried to hoof it less.

We played Adomah and Jellis as advanced 10s behind Levi… meaning when Levi pulled into the channels, there was absolutely no one in the box. Our attacking play was abysmal. I don’t think we really created a clear cut chance bar Adomah’s header.

It was very Mat Sadler that McEntee came on to replace Chang. Says it all.

As we were pushing for a goal in that last 20 mins - the stupidity of the squad selection really told.

The man who has scored the most goals off the bench in the division… mostly late or injury time goals… was having a lovely day out at Twycross Zoo.

I bet he came across marmosets with more brains than our manager. Absolutely pathetic decision - utter shambles.

Depends or not ehether Elicha Ahui comes here in the summer

But i suppose as a LWB if Gordon moves on, I’d be fine with him replacing Gordon.

We can all speculate as to what has happened - but I think it’s fairly certain since Vale/Barrow something has happened.

I think those two games, the penny really dropped with the entire echelon at the club, because it’s since then that we’ve seen things change - Hall used more, Williams back in the fold, Chang given minutes and today a change of approach.

What’s concerning is that it took the club quite so long to react - but it’s the same issue we see time and time again over years and years - this attitude of “it’ll be fine, put out some positive PR, it’ll be fine, it’ll blow over”, followed a few weeks later by “feck, it’s all gone tits up, what were we thinking just a few weeks ago?!”

The only silver lining, and it’s a very thin one, is that Trivela are still very green in their football development, they’re still learning, rather than an old guard stuck in their ways like Bonser et al were

I see Danny Johnson has changed his tag from Footballer for Walsall FC to Professional Footballer.

He’s clearly been told he won’t play again.

Absolute joke.

I can’t see us finishing lower than 4th, which means at the very least, we will have a home leg second. We’ve still got a chance of automatic promotion and, if not, a Wembley visit!

To get to Wembley we will have to win a game, so no chance at all.

Said before i will not be entertaining any play off games, not even Wembley if that’s where we end up, this capitulation from January as broke me

Really? If we are playing Notts County at Wembley, you won’t be going? I’m not throwing in the towel. If we miss out on automatic promotion then it’s because we just haven’t been good enough over 46 games - unfortunately the season doesn’t end in January! I’m not giving up on a club that I have supported for over 60 years, my hometown club - never!! UTS.

True fans, who are able, will be at every fixture left.this season, and excited by the friendlies that will prepare us for next season, be it league 1 or league 2.
Why? Because the whole experience of following the Saddlers enriches their lives. UTS

Let’s face it. We’re kidding ourselves if we think we’re going up. Matt, Levi , Harrison and Josh Gordon aren’t winning you promotion. Our attackers simply aren’t good enough. I doubt they’d get you out the national league.

That trip to Newport was one of the toughest I’ve had for years as it’s the hope that kills you … at 58 and almost 50th a in as a Saddler this season is coming close to finishing me off! Thought we played a lot better with more control of the game than for a long time and actually using the green stuff to move the ball around on. That was all down to a calming influence of Chang IMO, a class above, which in turn gave Stirk more time and confidence to do the same, even Dave showed better use of the ball with options to use Chang/Stirk for simple short passes rather than a hoof. On a couple of occasions players even opted for a quick throw in as Harry ambled up to take a long one, as confidence to do something different seemed to return for many. WHY, OH WHY DID IT TAKE MS SO LONG TO SEE WHAT WAS NEEDED :man_facepalming: if this approach had been used a month ago we would have gained a few additional points and may not be working on countless permutations and relying on favours from others. This simply underlines for me that MS is NOT the man to take this team/club forward as he does not see the obvious and is too stubborn to facilitate change when his preferred methods don’t work. We didn’t get the result I felt the lads deserved but maybe it’s renewed a little belief and confidence to give us another performance on Saturday to take our slim chances to the last day. Come on Mat see the error of your ways and stick with the same team/approach on Saturday, each and every single supporter will start squarely behind the team on Saturday and stick with in until the end like in South Wales… can’t say I fully STILL BELIEVE but I am a little more hopeful of our chance to stumble over the line be that by 3rd or 26th May … COYS

Couldn’t fault any of the players yesterday, they all put a shift in and were very unlucky not to have won the game albeit we still struggled to create too many clear cut chances. The frustration of the last 3 months is unbearable and like nothing I have ever known watching Walsall. Thought I had seen it all but obviously not! We are by far the best and worst sides I have seen this season and it would be nice if the club or Sadler would take some accountability for whats gone wrong as they were quick enough dishing plaudits out when it was going well. We can still do this and finish above Vale hopefully in the process, that I can take! Dragging this out in play offs for another 2/3 weeks I dont want to think about, lets get it done and over with asap!
