Next Walsall Manager Thread (Again)

With Collins and Stead as their league is still playing and they are under contract wouldn’t we be expected to pay compensation.
Are they that good prospect to pay a fee for ???
In my head I have mixed feelings either way what’s everybody else’s view

It’ll come as no surprise but it concerns me immensely.

If we’re to go with someone who hasn’t managed in the EFL before I’d at least like someone who has coached in it or been an assistant.

Collins sits, just above Deeney just below Phillips and Alexander and a mile behind Cowley, Artell and Sadler.

I was arguing it’s nothing like Conference North/South as it’s a professional league for a start.

We seem to think our leagues are the best and nothing else comes close. Completely wrong.

I have my preferred options but as fans all we can do is get behind whoever it is and hope they do well it is what it is we have no control over who they appoint.

It’s only his opinion , I think he’s wide of the mark ,
The MLS is very strong with lots of money involved and lots of good central and south American players, so it follows that the ULS will also be a good level. With the sheer amount of people playing football on that continent the laws of average tells you there is going to be lots of good players.

It’s very difficult to compare any league because
Players go to various leagues and countries different stages of their careers. But having watched a lot of National league (regional and National) I’d say that’s more a case of underestimating that level than the USL.

I’d wager there are more players finishing their careers over here at league 2 level say, and going over there to play USL than there are coming the other way. Of course lifestyle will play a part but I personally know of lads that have played National league (regional) and go out to the States with contracts to play USL and they’d be nowhere near National league or League two level players.

Of course there will be players in it playing below their level (either before or after their peak years) that’ll buck the trend.

I actually like a lot of your posts and opinions but this lumping in Sadler with Artell and Cowley is madness - and statistically ( ) bonkers. A bloke who has managed 4 professional games in the same class as Artell and Cowley? Sadler would be above Deeney, and below Phillips, then Collins, then Artell and Cowley.

I don’t get it.

I know that others have mentioned him already but if you want a manager that knows success (Dundee won the league), has managerial experience at league two (Bradford and Salford) and is available (no compensation because he left after achieving promotion), it has to be Gary Bowyer. 54% win percentage last season is amazing and has Midlands links too.

Ticks every box for me and if he can entice Akinyemi from Ayr, the belief would start coming back for my beloved football club.

I know this sounds like sour grapes but for Salford to get about 4000 fans for a play off semi final is an absolute joke. With Bowyer as Director of Football, I would be very optimistic about the future.

EDIT: shame he’s going to Blackpool, eh? :joy:

Aren’t there some rumours he’s going back to Blackpool?

I agree though generally done good jobs at every club he’s managed in last decade.

I assume they’ll be an appointment in next week anyway as players on brink of being released need some clarity on their futures.

Maybe Director of Football might appeal though!

Now we have the Americans, maybe we can gazzump ‘massive’ Blackpool and offer him a 3 or 4 year contract with bonuses for success…

Yep I’m struggling with it to, I’m trying to think of all those players that Sadler has improved with his coaching.

And I can’t come up with one.

See Vale have appointed from within Andy Crosby

Part of me agrees with that and part of me thinks that he has been a part of some of the worst football i have seen in years
And he hasn’t had to take any of the flack

I can see that point of view mate of course. He may also have been part of previous backroom teams itching to want us to play football but never voiced his opinion.Or voiced it and it got shot down because you can see how we have tried to play a bit more football whilst he’s been taking his opportunity in the dugout.

Isn’t that a @KingCrod ism?

Agree, but they are an artificial club. You can’t buy tradition and history and a fan base. Apparently Stockport only had 6-700 tickets. They must of split the away end?

It’s professional but I’d guess the standard is probably top NL North/South, maybe lower half of NL. It won’t be as good as the likes of Chesterfield or Boreham Wood.

That isn’t anything against Collins who I think could be just fine for us.

There is no valid reason for this borefest other than ‘People must agree with me that Sadler would be a good manager’

I have said it’s just my personal opinion. I really like what I see in the little we’ve seen. I’m not pretending I know more or see more or see anything cleverer than anyone else I’m just saying I’ve looked at how those games went and I really liked many things.

Despite what some think, I thought his pre and post game interviews were articulate, educated and interesting and didn’t contain the usual cliches I’d come to expect. They offered insight, knowledge and displayed a clear plan on how he wanted the future to look.

I quite like Artell and I wouldn’t be that unhappy with him at all, but there is still a nagging doubt about him and something is amiss with how he has been linked to just about every league two job going for the past 12 months and no one has looked to employ him.

The Cowleys, again, I wouldn’t be disappointed with and I watched the Mic’d up work they did and liked what I saw. However there is still a nagging reticence with how all of their jobs have gone other than Lincoln where they were very very basic and route 1. I’ve heard from people inside the game that they aren’t actually that great which worries me.

If we just assume that he had little or no input into the work done under Flynn and Hatswell…on the basis that he completely bucked their trend the minute he had sole control….and take just the last three games…

There were clear improvements not only in how we attempted to play, the style and the tactics, but look also at how he fitted some individuals into that system and how they performed….

Joe Low, I know he’s not mr popular (harshly imo for non ‘footballing’ reasons) was excellent in those games and in two of them recorded his highest No of competed passes at the highest % complete. I know the arguments against green types of stats but they are relevent if you’re a CB and we’re trying to change how we play.

Nobody saw the change of position of McEntee, even as a possibility. Now this could’ve been down to ROK or it could’ve been Sadler but it was a huge success short term and as Manager he has to take the credit whether it’s his idea or whether he’s brave enough to endorse someone else’s.

He got more of a tune out of Wilkinson employed as a 10.

Liam Gordon had gone all season without a single assist and came up with 2 in the last three games. His game improved immensely as a full back in a 4 compared with as a wing back in a 5.

Liams performance was helped considerably by the biggest positional change in playing Isaac Hutchinson as an inverted winger off of the left hand side. His movement inside and how he linked with Gordon imo saw a real upturn in Hutch’s form when he’d looked considerably tired and jaded under Flynn.

Knowles too had looked jaded under Flynn toiling away as a wing back or a make shift forward, yet found a refreshed look playing in his ‘natural’ position as a winger.

These imo all showed improvements under Sadler along with how they were used in a different system.

I’m not blindly banging the drum. It’s only my opinion and I’m just trying to endorse it with some sort of informed detail……others will disagree and that’s fine.

I’m just ready to see a more innovative coaching outlook and someone who gets the best from our most technically gifted players by passing the ball to them more often. I think Sadler does this.

However I will add that I think now that it’s very unlikely to be him given the time it’s taken so far to make an announcement.
