Entertainment doesn’t equate to quality.

I often go and watch park football and it’s very entertaining largely due to the absolute rubbish football on offer :joy:

Relatively speaking I often enjoy watching league 2 football over Premier League football for entertainment value, but the standard and the quality is obviously worlds apart.

Danny Hay anyone? Recently left the NZ national job.

Emblem or Bazeley (if he doesn’t get the National job) would be a great choices as well.

However they have only ever coached in the backwaters of North America and the Antipodes :grinning:

The latest from Neill Collins…

How does the USL Championship compare to our game as a level? I don’t follow it so wouldn’t have a clue.

It’s about National League North/South IMO.

I’m surprised Russell Penn isn’t being more heavily linked then

Wow is it that low? Isn’t it the level directly below the yanks biggest offering? Crikey that tells you all you need to know about football from across the pond.

Isn’t the USL division Tampa are in professional, unlike conference north/south?

I don’t think that folk should be getting sidetracked by comparing the standard of one league to another.
Surely it is the ability to manage a group of players to perform effectively & successfully that counts? That should be the criteria that any managerial candidate is judged on first & foremost, IMO.

I suppose the only question mark over appointing a head coach whose experience has been gained only in the US leagues would be how they would cope with the pressure & jeopardy of relegation / promotion. Something that US sport doesn’t have…

I’d agree but the fact he’s played in the football league throughout his career eases any worries on that.

Jon Stead is his assistant as well so those two along with Mat Sadler, the GK coach, we have a dugout packed with football league experience.

I don’t think Sadler will stay unfortunately

And I’m fine with that. Would have been nice for him to stay as a bit of continuity but I keep saying we need a fresh new approach, so maybe it’s best he does depart.

Nevertheless, the potential new manager and his assistant if he comes, have bags of football league experience. They know these leagues inside out.

Sadler has been a superb servant to this club and has been through all the tough times whether that be in the background or in the hot seat and I hope it has taught him a lot going forward whether that’s with us or as I personally think elsewhere.

I suggest you watch a few games , it’s more like Division one / two . As pointed out above there a snobery about certain foreign leagues.

The USL can be found extensively on you tube

It was me who started the comparison Prof and it wasn’t intentionally to put any candidate down or question their abilities I just haven’t got a clue what level the league in America that he manages in equates to over here.
