Next Walsall Manager Thread (Again)

Another sweet project for unnecessary third party consultants…

That approach would take some brains.

Foreign ownership with big promises, price hikes across the board, possibly a poor / cheap appointment that doesnt make a great deal of sense timeframe wise. Odd recruitment process which now involves looking for a back room team

I wouldn’t be at all surprised if there are a few rival supporters looking inquisitively in our direction and wondering if Walsall FC will be one of the basket case clubs next season.

I cover the same set of managers. Only a few of them got us promotion, rather more have helped us hold our own in the 3rd tier and a few have taken us down. The only consistent feature has been the rapid turnover.

How many in that time left of their own accord? MacKay, Smith and Clarke?

By the way, I am surprised by the level of bile and hatred on this thread before Sadler is a day into the job. And the way that opinion is taken as fact.

There’s a good amount of gallows humour to it though in a way, it’s the most Walsall thing I’ve ever seen, and we do some pretty unique stuff.

Makes you wonder why we do this to ourselves and put so much emotional and financial effort into this daft bloody football club, I’m sure it’s shortening my life

Nicholl…

After this financially invested and thoroughly considered due diligence, one can only imagine the new owners will be proud to share their findings at the upcoming press conference?!

Show me and us why Mat Sadler is the man for the task. None of the usual nonsense we have to accept.

Re-reading the announcement and was surprised by this.

"The club will now be initiating a similarly thorough vetting process to identify the right assistant coach to support Mat in his new responsibilities.”

I’d have thought that would have been for Sadler to table as part of the selection process.

I for one am extremely fearful about next season and what’s going to happen.Maybe it’s just the fact we have flirted with relegation or the fact that we gave Dutton the job in the past who knows but I have a feeling we could well be in a relegation dogfight next season.

I don’t think that’s true - nobody’s knocking the chap but even he must have been pretty surprised. If someone told you it’d take 5 weeks to appoint the incumbent I think we’d have all been pretty annoyed. The main annoyance seems to be with the process and nothing against Sadler personally. Bile and hatred is a wild overreaction

Moore as well.

Can you point me to some?

I’m surprised this bollocks gets rolled out every summer at fair skepticism

This evening I have emailed the SLO to ask when the next fans focus meeting will be.

I think it’s important for the club to explain why they have chosen this route, what the structure will look like, why Sadler, what the decisions were and where we are heading.

I’ve asked now as these things take a while to organise, and will have to fit BBs travel schedule.

They owe it to the supporters to explain these actions and to try and get everyone on board.

This ‘appointment’ has shown Trivela’s true colours, 5 weeks to give the job to the guy already in the job, extensive interviews my a*se!
Let the troublesome football team drop into non-league, have 'em groundshare with Bilston so that we can get on with realising the viability of the Real Estate around Bescot Crescent.
Trust us to get American ‘investers’ that are as useless and ‘skint’ in their approach to the footballing side of the ‘Company’ as Bonser was…We are Worsul…same old, same old, ad infinitum.

Last paragraph has nailed it.

It does not give off the vibe of a “football group” with a vision of where we are heading.

Serious vibes of Rookie owners not knowing the level, division or how to do the business.

I called Pomlett dangerous from one or two of his early videos. I’m going to go early with Trivella. I back Sadler and the team 110%. But Trivella like Pomlett are a risk to our league status.

In Boycott’s letter, he says they are moving away from the manager-centric approach where the head coach/manager brings his own staff. I am sure Sadler will be part of the appointment process but they are being consistent with what they say.

They inherited Flynn and it may be that the experience of having his traditional approach - where the boss is the boss - has moved them in this direction. People have been asking for a better off-field, more professional approach and this is what they are trying to do.

I know Brian Clough would not have approved but that was in the past. We will see what happens but this approach is at least better than having either an autocratic (as in Mansfield) or an ineffectual Chairman. It may not work but they deserve a chance.

Honestly I fear for the club, have done ever since we were relegated. I genuinely think we are at best a bottom ten, 4th division team.

0 top ten finishes in 7 seasons & Sadler was here for 3 of those. I wish him well, hope he is lucky & has a magic wand. Otherwise he & we are screwed.

5 weeks to appoint our caretaker manager, says it all really. We used to be indecisive and now we’re not so sure. Joke really.

The problems at the club aren’t in the dugout they’re in the boardroom. Next 6 months are massive for our club & i for one am not lumping on.

That is exactly what it is not. It may turn out to be poor but it is not a knee-jerk appointment. I think the sacking was partly inevitable as Flynn lost the players and partly as a result of the fans making their displeasure known.

And then like politicians, not really answer the questions asked

How can it not be knee jerk if it’s taken 5 weeks to appoint the caretaker manager?

It suggests we have been turned down by managers and Sadler is the panic pick.

I think BB’s letter last week was a prophylactic to prepare against this negative reaction.

I don’t think they planned this restructure until after choosing Sadler. That letter was a post-facto way of trying to rationalise it.
