Don’t disagree Dan about his attitude and professionalism , his body shape spoke more than words could ever say , but fans were turning on him long before this game , as DK was making the team play hoofball out of desperation to try and get some points , which by the way was not one of Cooks strengths , but also the managers lack of ideas and being able to swop and change , but to persevere lumping it forward when the opposition has long sussed it out and put two , three defenders on the bloke .
His frustrations got the better of him on a couple of occasions , kicking goal posts , gobbing off at other players etc etc but at the end of the day he got what 18 goals in a ■■■■ side that got relegation .
He lost it at the wrong people.
Oh yeah some got on his back earlier but not one player didnt have fans on their back at one point. He just couldn’t handle it and while the personal abuse isn’t, the whole thing of being able to take a bit of criticism is part and parcel, he couldn’t manage it. Better off gone, goals or not, as I’ve said a few times as long as we replace with someone who can put a good ball in then it’ll be fine. Think it’s a fair assessment to say that’s what we’re lacking atm so let’s hope if Dobson and Ferrier go that’s where the money goes…
At the end of the day he showed his ability by only getting a move to a lower league club than ourselves in Mansfield. Like I said I look forward to giving him loads of stick home and away… Which he obviously can’t handle and may see him getting sent off.
Or scoring against us in both legs …

Not if Clarke is keeping a close eye on him. Really think he will become a saddlers hero as one of our best ever centre half’s. Butler eske.
How did we look defensively in first 60 mins today? Can you see Clarke/scarr/sadler becoming a formidable force this season ?
Definitely looking good defensively. it’s just up top we need options and a goalscorer at any cost… And then I believe we will be top 7 at least.
I was also pleased today with how many coaches and fitness trainers were out there today before kick off and how much more professional we looked. Which can only be good. In DC I believe. UTS
A solid defence is a great platform to go into the season. But like you said we still need somebody up top to put the ball into the net
You can see why DC has had so much success. Just from his interviews he is very focused. And he speaks his mind. And as you’ve picked up hes got a professional set up.
If you can get a manager in who speaks his mind, is confident in his own ability and his coaching staff. But also has the respect of every player and can get the very best out of them. That is half the battle in league 2. We have that.
Plus hes got promotions under his belt so he knows what it take to achieve it. I really do believe we appointed the best manager out of the ones in the running for the job
I was surprised, that DC wanted to work here. I think few other clubs wanted to sign him too, so it was a real success to convince him, to do it. So far his men, his plans. I don’t think someone else would convince club to travel for pre-season tour to other country. Outside GB. It looks promising for the next season. Result of one friendly game won’t change it. Nearly exactly one year ago Ajax lost two-nil. Have it helped in season later? Don’t think so. I hope results in last games will help this time. Maybe defence will be better, who knows. But three central midfielders, able to play defensively. It can be difficult to score against us.
Defensively we looked absolutely fine for the first 60 mins. Feels refreshing to feel like we have a solid spine to the team after the last two years of teams just walking through us.
Like others have said, from that starting eleven, we are just a decent striker away to compete with Adebayo and Gordon from being pretty much complete and I’d like to think that we can sign someone because neither Holden, Candlin or Ferrier (If he doesn’t want to be here) are the answer.
Match highlights:
Let’s go all out then for a Striker and not repeat the mistakes of Keates by quantity over quality. Make this the focus of the budget.
Ferrier, Dobson and likely Candlin have no futures here, so we will have a proportion of those financial benefits to play with in January.
Said this the day he left; it says alot that he ended up at Mansfield.
Dean Keates was poison as Manager for Walsall FC.
