I have to say, that was the best day out at the football i have had for many years. What a game. What a team.
Notts were bloody good on the eye in the first half and we were fortunate to go in at the break just the one goal down. Not sure what was up with Barrett but Martin had him on toast. It looked at one point as though he had just given up.
Evan Weir, what a pleasure to witness that goal line clearance. Incredible.
Second half McEntee bossed the midfield and Jamma was a beast up front.
Liam Gordon also had a great game, as did Stirk. My Man of the Match though Evan Weir. After biding his time he put in one heck of a showing.
I dont think i have ever witnessed such a desire from a team to win a game.
In the first half Barrett bottled a tackle which was a proper 50/50 and they went through on goal. Everyone around me was in disbelief. You can’t do that but he hadn’t done much wrong this season but that was a shocker of a moment.
The magnitude of that win cannot be underestimated. In the first half, there was a five minute period where we were camped on edge of our box with Notts playing passes around us in triangles - in two matches, they’ve played the best football I’ve seen against us this season and we’ve come out victorious in both.
Sadler’s substitutions were spot on at half time - Jamma led from the front and how their bloke didn’t get second yellow is beyond me. McEntee would be in one box one minute, the other the next. Stirk has been amazing all season and Weir took his chance with both hands.
A couple of minutes before our second, I turned to my sister and said “there’s still a Nathan Lowe moment in this match”. You see fans of opposing sides accusing us of being a one man team - that’s utter bollocks though as shown by how we functioned in the second half.
I usually assess a team at the half-way point of the season. Top of the table, 52 points and 12 points clear with a game in hand, highest scorers in the league and only 3 defeats. That deserves and A+ in my book.
What a team this is, there’s such a togetherness about the whole squad, something most of us have been longing for.
Today’s game would have been a credit in L1 let alone L2. It really was a good contest between two very good sides. They were on top for the majority if the half and going 1-0 ahead, it could have been more had it not been for one of the best goal line clearances, by Evan Weir, I’ve ever seen. What a magnificent piece of defending by the MotM, he had a great game today.
So did McEntee and Jamma who was a beast when he was subbed for Albert (totally ineffective up front). Lowe had a quiet game by his standards, but he scores when we need it most, the winner!
Fantastic result today against the best side we’ve faced this season imho. We’re most certainly a 2nd half team, MS must be giving some brilliant half-time talks, whatever he’s saying definitely works.
There aren’t enough adjectives or superlatives to describe this squad Sadler and his coaching staff has assembled. I know most of our fans are euphoric about our season so far and praying that the form continues.
From a very happy Walsall fan!
One thing I wish Sadler would stop doing is Playing Albert upfront he’s much better out wide and puts dangerous crosses in I’d like to see another striker come in this month if we can ship DJ out I like DJ but he’s not getting a look in now and is expensive to just be benchwarming.
