Offside is debatable from that angle. Possible foul from Jamma’s collision with the defender, but that isn’t what it was disallowed for.
Gotta be a foul which it probably is, McEntee is never offside.
It’s a foul. Jamma does this a lot. I think it was Grimsby we had one disallowed for similar? Not knocking him, sometimes you get away with it.
I haven’t seen a good angle of the goal Notts had disallowed but I am struggling to see how it is offside. Not that I am complaining, we deserved the win for our second half performance.
I will reiterate what others have said. Barrett, lord knows what was up with him today, more than just a bit of fatigue if you ask me, maybe he had a heavy new years eve. Was weird watching such a good player struggle so much. I’m surprised Adomah wasn’t switched wide at half time, with Matt coming on for Barrett.
I also loved Jamma’s celebration in front of their fans when their goal was disallowed.
Another to the list of great away days this season.
Up the football league we go.
An outstanding second half performance.
So proud of this team and their attitude. Seems mad but I’ve got a couple of critisms.
1). Adomah not a striker. Can see what value he adds if we’re ahead with 20 minutes to go. Experienced head to run things down for us. I don’t want to see him start upfront for us again though.
2). McEntee. What a second half performance from him. He’s looked good every time I’ve seen him over Christmas and he must surely be getting some more game time soon? Disappointed he didn’t start today to give Larkin or Jellis some rest.
Having said that the decision to start Weir was inspired, well done Mr Sadler. What a goal line clearance. Stirk and Weir tied for my Motm.
The offsides calls by the officials seemed a bit random today though.
Jetta’s opener was offside
Couldn’t see much wrong with the McEntee header.
Notts equaliser at the death looked like it should have stood?
Out fans did us proud.
On the balance of both halves a draw would have been a fair result. This is two points gained by us today and exactly the sort of thing that promotion chasing teams do. Bring on Flynns lot for 8 in a row! UTS.
Think he hit a physical/psychological wall today, first full season in pro football etc. The mentality was still there though. See the celebrations for the equaliser that @semaj shared and Barrett is one of the players urging us back for the re-start. Was no way this team was settling for a point.
I think you are probably right.
That is why it seemed so odd. There is no way I would question any of our players not having the right mentality, it has been a huge part of us doing so well. There were a few moments where he didn’t look fully committed but there is no way that is the case and is probably explained by what you said. He has been a key player for us and hasn’t missed many minutes at all so far. Games come thick and fast over Christmas time too which is probably also a factor.
Definitely. Got caught trying to run the ball out on the touchline first half and watched on rather than chasing back to redeem the error. Just didn’t seem right but nor did the team.
Tom Williams (Notts fan) opinions of the match are spot on I’d say.
He talks a lot of sense in all his clips.
(Apologies to Sky)
Not Forest 1-2 Walsall
Didn’t expect that, very happy to see it. Well done Sadler and the lads!
Well fellow Saddlers, what a day, what a team, absolutely buzzin’ after that unbelievable second half performance I think no-one expected. Wow, just wow. This team is special. The celebrations at the final whistle were something else. They know it too.
Tom Williams is a young guy but has some great knowledge of L2 and good independent insights.
His concept that we ‘adapt and find a way’ is spot on. I also think our fitness levels (combined with having no weak links /average players unlike last few years where we always had a few pretty shit players) are a key factor … hence the strong second half performances characterised by a relentless press / high energy
I thought his tactical analysis was a bit basic tbh. We all know how a 5-3-2 should operate, the idea is that you have the extra man for the overload in whatever area of the pitch you’re in - but you can only do that with really mobile, and really fit players - and that’s what we’ve got. Jellis, Lakin, Barrett and Gordon - just look at the ground they cover, and how quick they are.
The point he makes about ‘balance’ only really looked at positioning of players, and what he said about the central midfield 3 always operating as a triangle is completely true, however, he went no further. What really enables us to dominate teams is ‘balance’ in terms of threat and defensive capability.
He failed to notice that our wing backs offer such an attacking threat (with their pace and trickery) that teams have to double up on them, leaving space for the likes of Jellis and Lakin to exploit. It’s also so important that we have this on both sides. In previous seasons we’ve had good players on one side, but not on t’other - in these situations opposition teams can more easily adapt and they’re not as stretched.
On the flip side, Barrett and Gordon are so adept defensively, and pacey, that they can get back quickly and we fold back in to a flat-back-5.
That’s the real benefit of ‘balance’. In previous years we’ve had wing-backs who were adept defensively, but they couldn’t (or wouldn’t) get forward.
Sold out half of the away stand in the end then as I suspected. Also noticed on the highlights a few in the second had made their way down to the lower sectioned off seats so I imagine it was a bit cramped up there for those who like a bit of space.
Hopefully they come up aswell and the game is on a normal Saturday next season so you can actually pay there on the day for future visits.
McGoldrick one right at the end would’ve been interesting. Looked like as the cross was swung in he came from behind of the right sided defender.
I think if the cross had gone straight to him he might have been onside, but at the point the County player headed it he was off imho
Highlighted by the fact he wasn’t running in on the diagonal but a straight line across the box. A couple of county fans on their forum thought it was offside having been closer than any of us but I guess we will never know, just like the Osin goal I can’t see the offside as it wasn’t disallowed for a foul linesman defo raised flag for offside.
But in the commentary apparently we beat forest and county yesterday, what a team we have
Spot on, according to my county friend, who was sat almost in line with it. He thought he’d timed his run to perfection… until it got a touch by the county player, which put him offside.
Don’t think that female commentator yesterday spent much time actually commenting on what’s was going on in the game .spent most of her time constantly repeating the same football facts she had obviously written down from research before the game .found her really annoying.plus she constantly kept talking would have been more suited to horse racing commentary.take a breathe sometimes just be quiet
I saw a clip where she referred to Notts County as Nottingham Forest twice within about 30 seconds. Let’s hope no-one sends the link to Joey Barton.
Most of the sky commentators are dire tbf
