still waiting for a Sadler interview so the Notts manager will have to do for now
They had their left wing back on the right and the right wing back on the left.
So it would be like us playing Gordon on the right and Barrett on the left.
An inverted wing back would be a wing back who plays on the other side to his strongest foot. Eg right footed player on the left side and vice versa.
It’s a continuation of an inverted winger or an inverted full back.
An inverted winger can cut in on his stronger foot where he can shoot or cross. It is believed this is more effective than a traditional winger. Think Arjen Robben.
To combat this full backs also became inverted so they could combat inverted wingers with their stronger foot.
There was a passage of play where their guy had it about 8 yards out in their area and their player clearly wanted to go forward but the manager demanded he played it back to their keeper. A lot of micromanaging going on, such a contrast in styles, was a very intriguing 2nd half.
My whole belief system in possession based football has been turned on its head, that stat that we had nearly the same amount of shots as possession is wild.
Haven’t seen the full highlights yet, but my lad just sent me this of the first goal.
we had just popped to the toilet while Simkin was down and my boys were at the front waiting for me when the goal went in, you can see them celebrating as the players go over. I missed it by the way cos I take ages to take a piss
I’m not sure what the fuss is all about, i can’t see any foul.
Bass flounders at the cross and makes a right meal of it.
Their manager has not done is homework, thinks we are picking from a fully fit squad.
A massive result and performance.
I love this team.
Total bullshi*ing manager sour grapes we were at full strength no we weren’t they had lots of injuries .woeful excuses
I went through a phase where i missed loads of goals going to the loo, got to a point whenever we we losing ppl around me were telling to the go take a wee
Very rare I go during the game but go chatting to someone during half time. When Simkin went down we popped down. I was still in there when the goal went in, but fortunately, the kids got to see it.
I take full credit for our 2006/07 promotion
Total knob head they didn’t even appeal for a foul keeper completely missed the ball. cockney southerner what do you exepect
Thanks mate, we are a due another one now surely so…
Great win tonight. I’d have taken the draw to be honest before the game started.
The game changed after Simkin went down - I’m pretty sure intentionally as County were right on top in the first 10 mins of the 2nd half. Scoring from a corner is always a bit fluky - but I’ll take it.
George then grew into the game after not doing much in the first half - really well taken goal. He’s a good player - just needs some fitness and confidence.
I thought both Simkin and Big Dave had some good moments and bad moments. That save at the death probably won us the three points - but I really think the lad should have saved Notts second. Having said that Hornby let a very similar goal in against Exeter.
I’m still not convinced Albert is a forward - but lovely pass from him to setup Lowies winner.
I thought County were a good side who were low on confidence. Think we probably played them at the right time.
Bring on the Vale. UTS.
Guess i will stock up on the water
One player who went slightly under the radar tonight was Jamma. Not necessarily for his usual contribution as he didn’t have a great deal of balls played into him, but more the graft he put in pressing their back three. We lost a bit of that when he went off, although Albert showed what he can bring to the table and offer a different problem
He says they controlled the first half. We had 10 shots to 2 from them. Yes they had the ball a lot but didn’t do much with it. On the other hand we had little of the ball but could have had at least 2 goals with slightly better finishing.
Highlights
I hate possession stats. Its like yeah ok you spent 50% of the game passing it between your gk and rb, means nothing. Bit like these new ones like expected goals. Only stats i take notice is shots and well the outcome
I thought they were really poor in the first half. In many ways their style of play bored me as much as Bromley, although completely contrasting styles. The only real saving grace was McGoldrick, he’s a classy as they come at this level
Second half when they stepped it up they looked a very good side, but we held out shape really well throughout and always looked a threat when we turned the play over
