in our view, upon reflecting, we have had a process in these past many years that was overly manager-centric…
We’ll be working with a fresh plan and a fresh vision from here on. I believe in building a structure, a system, and a culture where a manager can come in if (and only if) they fit that strategy, and be a part of our building process. Said another way, we need to build a crystal clear football strategy, and identify the correct manager to fit into that picture, and create the best possible environment for that manager to succeed.

As for stats and analytics. I’ve said many times that they are a pivotal part of the success of clubs that were our erstwhile comtemporaries, examples being Brighton and Brentford, and I’ve also quoted Sunderland. While other clubs went out and spaffed fortunes on signing Brighton’s players, Newcastle went out and signed Brighton’s head of recruitment  These clubs have achieved remarkable success by having a clear strategy, and structures which are supported by both the above and importantly INVESTMENT. Not stupid money, but investment in the football side with a view to providing both success and future financial return from said investment - something which Trivela should be interested in if they are serious.

That is palpably different from turning every match thread into a boring navel gazing exercise, typified by the same posters ping-ponging dozens of posts that either blow smoke up their favourite players arse or alternatively gob off their hobby horse boo boy who is blamed for everything (delete as appropriate) week in week out, with stats being brought in as the latest “tool” to support the same tired old opinions in an attempt to make said posters look more clevererer than the rest of us. Most of whom can quite happily watch a game and have an opinion without resorting to nausiating pedantry in the “virtual pub” of Sunday afternoon on UTS.
