From what I have seen about Artell, I cannot see that he is the person we want. Slags off his players in public, got 5 yellow and 1 red card in a season as manager. He has managed one club, gaining a promotion in the Covid truncated season and a relegation. He likes to have large squad turnovers.
I have no idea why people think he would be a good choice. More of the same but with a bigger ego,
If he is willing to take the job then, in my opinion, it has to be Cowley; or the Cowleys I should say.
Before they took the Pompey job they probably wouldnât have considered Walsall. But football management is a competitive business and reputations can rise and fall very quickly. There have been several vacancies which theyâve missed out on recently, if they were interested. Swindon and Tranmere have gone and Grant McCann seems set for Donny. Theyâve been mentioned in connection with the Reading job but Iâd avoid that club if I were them.
The Cowleys havenât managed at League Two level since they left Lincoln. But I think theyâd be wise to rebuild their reputation where they have been very successful before. Danny is only forty-four and his brother younger. Lead Walsall to promotion in the coming season and have you sitting comfortably in League One then they will have restored the reputation that has been slightly tarnished by two years at Portsmouth.
Agree, but will they lower their expectancy levels back to the 4th Division?
They have got to be a better proposition than Artell surely? Regrettably there are many clubs looking for new Managers currently, our âpoison chaliceâ would come bottom of that list for anyone looking for their next position in management. Just like decent footballers looking for a new club.
Iâm very surprised Wimbledon havenât sacked their manager. Johnnie Jackson has overseen a terrible season, particularly considering they were only relegated last season, following a poor tenure at Charlton in his only previous managerial post.
Think weâll appoint someone whoâs not on this list. I suggested Siggi Eyolfsson at the top of the âNext Walsall Manager Thread (Again)â thread. His CV is pretty impressive.
I certainly donât want Deeney. Too much of a media whore like Holloway, in my opinion. WFC needs someone whoâs dedicated to building a club up from its foundations, not someone whoâs got a myriad of media distractions.
If Deeneyâs serious about going into coaching he needs to drop into the non-leagues, learn his trade & prove himself there.
