Prayer Room

I think one or two on facebook are still having a lie down and reacquainting themselves with their spleens.

Maybe they could use it themselves to prey the club see the light and get rid of it😁

Great move. Can only help a club with such a wide ethnic community on its doorstep get more through the turnstiles.

I can see the vultures circling now.

Since you are the most vocal anti-religion person on this site, I was half-expecting you to unveil a banner outside the room on Saturday.
Glad you apparently managed to contain yourself.

Out of interest, did anyone on here go in on Saturday? If so, were there many in and what was it like?
Genuinely interested as I wondered who might want to use it. I forgot it was there tbh otherwise I might have popped my head in out of curiosity / invoke a couple of demons ahead of the game .

It certainly was

I’m guessing a lot of what you have said there is tongue in cheek or maybe to get a rise!
Would people have flocked there during the game on Saturday? Probably not, but then it isn’t just there to be used on match day for a couple of hours, just as there won’t be people queuing for the locker at half 10 this morning.
I mentioned further up the thread that this room is something in place for those who work at or visit the ground during the week too, providing a facility like office blocks, hospitals and schools now do.
Whether people choose to use it is up to them in the same way people may or may not use a creche room. I think some of the sarcasm and digs towards it are unnecessary tbh.

From my conversations with folk and looking at social media (which itself is a self selecting sample of opinionated gob-shites) I’d say that around 95% think this is a good move or are ambivalent.

A small minority seem positively upset.

I think it’s a really positive step towards casting the Walsall FC net as far and wide as it can within the town and borough’s communities and as you say creating a space throughout the week for all who visit the stadium.

I’ve never said individuals shouldn’t be free to choose their way.

I will mock it though, as I’d mock anything else. In the same way, I am free to do that also.

The question of how bad religion is for world
Peace, a roadblock for progress etc is a Big P Philosophical question - whilst having a multi faith room for fans at Walsall is quite a bit down the pecking order in that larger context :joy:

@Belphegor I had a look in briefly pre game there wasn’t anyone in there. A small oblong carpeted room. . On entering to the left there is a foot spa and the tile surrounds are red and white in a chequered pattern.

Only the bit about demons.

Interesting how many varying opinions there are about its purpose, its validity and its value. personally, I’m very meh about it tbh. Not sure why someone needs a room to pray in , but each to their own - I’m not religious so that’s probably why.

Thanks @Fellows1926 for the reply. I’m surprised that it wasn’t packed tbh, given all the support it seems to have on here

Foot spa eh? Now we’re talking. Hopefully with some of those little fish in too. Does it mean we can offer baptisms as well?

It’s actually a recently-discovered well-spring that, so I understand, is to named in honour of our former Saviour and Benefactor, Saint Jeffery de Bonseur.

I believe a plaque will shortly be put in place that will bear the family motto ‘Et cur non deberem’

It is clearly aimed principally at our Muslim community.I know well one of the people who pressed the Club to open it. I am wholly in favour but most Christians don’t need a separate room as you rightly say and I am one of them. I will go and have a look at the room but I think The Locker will remain my preferred venue of choice before a game.

Actually I think it is spelt “Bon sewer” MEL…you really do need read up on your saints!

Can you access this from the family stand during a match as we often have a number of people of different faiths in there?

I was also in The Locker (non-disco quiet room) praying to eventually get served before the game.

I was in there too on Saturday…service was slow .I usually go in the bigger room but wanted to look at the memorabilia stand.
