Oh dear.
Just a very pointless post by yourself wasnāt it? What was its purpose?
Iām absolutely no expert but when you say, violent rhetoric, is that so in relation to the āstoriedā actions of people rather than the stated intentions/guiding principles of the religion itself?
Where do the guiding actions come from?
Iām not debating it, merely expressing an opinion and youāve taken some of my words and re-positioned them to suit your questionā¦
No, just pointing out itās not just those with power, that power comes through the violence and suppression of people given the bible and other holy texts.
Youāre not seriously suggesting thereās any connection between the prayer room and
Are you? Iām confused what point you are making.
No, how you could conclude that ⦠is beyond me.
My comment was in relation to the idea that the core tenets of religion provoke racism and dislike of other faiths; I donāt think that is the case.
The term āCultural Christiansā is often used nowadays, often by the people you refer to. As you say, these people are not active practitioners of their faith but frequently equate their cultural background with their āwhitenessā.
Ok. Thatās fine.
As far as the bible is concerned you are right. The Old Testament is basically a history of the Jewish people embellished with lots of myths and legends but the faith takes its name from Jesus Christ whose life is described mainly in the Gospels. Many Christians try to live their lives based on his teachings which were about peace and love.
I donāt know enough about the Quran to make comments on that but the Muslims I know do many good works in our local community.
Iām a fan of the late Christopher Hitchens.
He had no time for any religion but he observed that whilst Christianity had undergone reformation over the centuries and had become more accommodating of the realities of the world over time,
Islam, around 600 years later on the scene, has never undergone a similar process.
Islam also has the problem as defining the Quran as the final, definitive and unalterable revelation of God (Allah).
I donāt think you can cherry pick the best bits⦠itās all or nothing if it was written (influenced) by the Holy Spirit right?
Same with the Quran and any other text.
You clearly didnāt listen when RE was taught at school or it was taught badly. To be a Christian means trying to follow the teachings of Jesus Christ whose basic message was one of love and peace . That is what most Christians try and do.
Arenāt you literally cherry picking the worst bits to generalise your position on religion?
Yep, sure. You cannot cherry pick the best bits out of the bible though.
Unfortunately, itās all or nothing.
So for example, I take it that if you donāt now follow the Old Testament, you donāt believe God created the heavens and earth? You donāt believe in Adam and Eve, Moses, the Garden of Eden, Abraham etc?
Of course you do.
Nope, just saying itās not all sunshine and canapĆ©s.
Donāt try and tell me what I believeā¦I donāt tell you what to believe. I havenāt got the time or the energy to write you a treatise on the Christian faith so I will leave it there. It is a subject that demands better than a few exchanges on a football website! I am happy with my life which has been made richer by my faith. You are obviously very happy with your life and that is good.
as a christian, i wont use it, probably. But i think its great for the community; our neighbours and anyone that comes to visit.
dont understand the uproar from some vocal m"ongs on FB (WFHYS Included).
Anyway, the club have provided one for those who want to use it, to try and appeal to a larger audience and to maybe encourage others to come who may have had to think twice because of their beliefs/needs. If ones donāt want to use it, then donāt, simples! Itās a bit like the toilets, they are there if you need them in your hour of need but, if you donāt need them, then donāt use them, but donāt criticise those who have a smaller bladder than you and need to pay a visit!!
