Just watching Salford v Mansfield and the ref is on par the with the rest.
I don’t know if it’s this league but the standard of officiating is getting worse year after year.
Of the fifty odd games we’ve played very few of us can say the ref had a good game.
I think that retired premiership and championship referees should step down to our level and show the abysmal refs what the standard is.
Oh, I forgot, they would be lost without VAR!
Watching last night’s game the Premiership ref’s couldn’t get the Championship game right
Anyone know what’s become of Brett Huxtable? He doesn’t appear to been involved in any game since early March.
Worse than Kettle he is
Kettle is retiring after this season, thank god.
Watching Blues at Sutton.
Ben Atkinson - perennial lower league ref with the whistle.
Commentators laughing it off, but he’s demonstrating - live on telly - the absolute abject officiating we endure most weeks. He’s all over the shop. As are his assistants. Big and small decisions alike. Not an overly difficult match either.
The guy we had yesterday wasn’t very good but not the worst this season. I don’t think they are helped by the constant tinkering of the rules every season. When is a push not a push for example.
If you fall over and scream, ala Bolton its a foul, if you try to stay on your feet it’s play on.
On fouls, did anyone think it was a free kick for their goal? I saw it as a great block tackle by H, that spun off him for a corner. Their bloke rolls on the floor, so the ref adds insult to supposed injury, by booking H.
While on H, he was pushed into the wall by their player and again, the ref gives nothing. The game was only stopped after the lino saw the seriousness of it.
I didn’t think it was a foul for their free kick either. I was amazed H was booked. I didn’t see the push on H when he went into the wall but clearly there was a foul from those siting nearer have said.
why didnt the injured player go off for the 30 seconds after the trainer came on
The injured player doesn’t have to go off the pitch if the offending player is shown a yellow card. (I didn’t know til I just checked).
I’m not sure what to make of the ref yesterday. On the one hand he missed (or decided to ignore) some hefty challenges including one in each penalty area. On the other hand his lack of constant intervention meant the game flowed beautifully and as a result we had a cracking game of football which is what we all want.
This shocker in the Peterborough game.
Ref gave a corner because he and the linesman thought the Newport player had headered it wide and it had gone through the side netting.
Luckily for them they still went on to win.
Former Vale, Coventry and LA Galaxy player to become a ref:
One of the first? Big Steve Baines beat him to it by 30 years.
And he was a better referee than most we see these days.
Sure he gave us a dodgy pen once.
Might have been at home to Stockport whose fans and management were quite vocal in their view that a ref shouldn’t be officiating his old club.
Another one today.
Feels like a real crisis in quality.
The worst ever ?
