Rico Henry improving all the time

It’s really hard to judge, I’ve been wrong plenty of times, but Jason McCarthy was superb for us, in attitude and performance, and that would seem to be the level he has settled at.
I like Bennett and agree with @WalsallOne that I’m glad he’s here, but I’m not sure I see him in the Prem as some do.
An interesting thread might be “young players we were right about, young players we were wrong about” although it would depend a lot on us all being retrospectively honest about our judgement of course. :grinning:

Well one I was totally wrong about was Alan Clarke . He had played a few games and had done nothing and I said to someone who I knew that he was rubbish. The other guy said you are so wrong he will play for England one day . I laughed and very next game he scored and carried on scoring. It taught me a lesson never write off a player after a few games especially a young one.
Perhaps I am making the same mistake about Bennett only in reverse :grinning: I hope not.

I just don’t see how Bennett can’t get into Cambridge’s first team squad! Fair play to Flynn and his staff for identifying Bennett. Only negative is that he is only on loan.

We could put an offer in for him?

Bennett is an absolute gem. Saw enough v Telford. On loan playing with an attitude to die for. Flynn played White instead of him. Just let that sink in!!. POTS already won.

This from a BBC piece on which Prem players should probably be going to the world cup but probably won’t be…

Ian Westbrook, Beesotted

Rico Henry: It is unbelievable that England, with a left-back vacancy, have ignored Henry. He is lightning quick, nimble, makes perfectly timed tackles, can cross well and is consistently good - 8/10 every game. He can also play in a back four or as a left wing-back and now has Premier League experience too.

But he doesn’t play Tottingham/Arsenal/ man utd etc etc

Telegraph: Rico Henry exclusive: ‘Ashley Cole was my hero – I would love to play for England like him’ (telegraph.co.uk)

Brentford left-back models game on Ashley Cole and faces another England left-back eyeing place in Gareth Southgate’s squad in Ben Chilwell.

This story is beyond a paywall. When I get a mo, I’ll see if I can dig it our elsewhere.

Used to work through the wayback machine if someone had archived it. Posted the link to see if that works anyway

It’s his own fault he isn’t being chosen for England. What he should do is play at right-back for Brentford, then Southgate would choose him as a left-back for England.

I think the drubbings Brentford take from time to time do not help his cause one bit.

Especially when it’s against a shit team …

When did he last sign a new contract at Brentford.

Been there six years, in his mid 20s now and played nearly 50 games in premier league.

If he’s talking about England being a serious ambition then he’s going to have to move somewhere else especially given the nonsense of Toney belatedly getting a call up and then not even getting in the matchday squads.

Think he signed one not long ago

March 2022 for four years, one year in club favour. So, could be hard to change club. He’s not that young anymore.

Why is that anyone decent with a sell-on clause always decides the club they sign for after Walsall is their forever club?!

As well as he has done, and as much as we would like him to make it to the very top, the fact is that, if he was a stand-out player, one of the top teams would have been in for him by now. Instead, he’s mid tier Premier league. If Brentford have a bad season and get relegated in the next couple of years, expect a crystal Palace or someone similar to pick him up cheap.
