Another Saturday, another away day!
(If anyone wants to write a preview, DM me and I’ll insert it, or just post it!)
First in person away game of the season, and I can not wait. I think we’ve got a great chance too, Salford seem to have hit a bit of a ceiling the last few, well more than that, seasons. You can’t deny our form either, the only sticking point is our away form.
I think we win this game to be honest, but wouldn’t be disappointed with a draw.
I think it will be a draw simply because we haven’t had one yet in the League! 1-1
This will be another tough game for the Saddlers, Salford coming off the back of two home league victories against Mk Dons and Cheltenham
Key man for them is Hakeeb Adelakun who gave Joe Foulkes a tough time when he played for Doncaster last season. This would perhaps suggest that Connor Barrett will be kept busy and may not be able to burst forward as much as has been the case this season.
Salford centre back Stephen Negru on loan from championship Oxford has been getting good reviews and I would start with Jamma to occupy him.
Both sides have only conceded 4 goals in the league so far, so this suggests it will be a tight game with few goals.
1-1 Draw I think seems very likely. Stockton for them and Lakin for us.
Assuming Josh Gordon is still out I think the line up will be.

I’d probably go for that team too, but DJ must be in with a shout of starting after doing exactly what Sadler has asked of him and then bagging 2 in the last 2.
When all of our strikers are fit, we’ll do well to keep them all happy - and that’s coming from somebody who felt we were short of options up top a few weeks ago.
A nice problem to have for a change!
Salford have had a very difficult start, losing only to Port Fail in their opening 5 games.
They’ve beaten MK and Cheltenham and drawn with Bradford and Chesterfield.
I will be more than happy with a point.
I’d imagine DJ will still be some way off two starts in a week tbf, so can’t see him starting just yet, but when he is it’s a no brainer, but then I thought it was last season Would be Cleary for me, I’m not sure what Matt adds with Lowe.
Earing has to start too, he is miles ahead of Lakin’s performances this season, and Jellis but to a lesser degree.
I think many would disagree with the “miles ahead” and I think Jellis has been very good. I like Earing but he seems to be developing a habit of missing chances.
I expect to see DJ on the bench but playing 30 minutes rather than 10. It’s great that he feels in the best shape of his life but he cannot be fully match fit yet.
Ok I don’t. Note, I didn’t say Jellis hadn’t been good, I just think Earing has been our best midfielder, and it’s not particularly close to second place. His runs from midfielder are fantastic, and he is more composed when creating chances, and I haven’t been particularly impressed with Lakin’s use of the ball.
Perhaps the biggest test of the season so far - establish a formula for winning away and grab one here then I’d be much more certain we’re in for a good season.
My thoughts too.
The Peninsula Stadium is always a tough place to go and this year will be no exception. I expect the 565 other ticket holders will be equally as excited as I am about us going up against one of the toughest League 2 nuts to crack.
I’d be delighted with a point and keeping the forward momentum going, we will have to be at or very close to our best if we want to emerge from this game with 3 priceless points in our relentless quest for the promised land of the top 7 comewhat May.
Jellis plays that side of the midfield 3 doesn’t he? Which will help a lot I think.
Yes. Good observation
Thought I’d give it a go
Walsall travel the 86 miles or so to the British Broadcasting Corporation favourites Salford City in search of their 2nd away win of the season, with Salford looking for their 3rd straight league win for the first time since October 2023. Walsall did the double over Salford last season with the scoreline 2-1 which happens to be the scoreline in every game Walsall have beaten Salford in their history (4 wins to their 6). In the 10 times this fixture has played out in the club’s history there has not been a single draw so here’s hoping a Walsall 2-1 win is on the cards for a fifth time.
Salford come into this fixture with 1 loss in their 5 league games which came on the opening day but have lost their 3 cup games in the EFL Cup and EFL Trophy. They have won their last 2 games at home to MK Dons and Cheltenham with substitute Hakeeb Adelakun turning the game with 2 goals against Michael Flynn’s Cheltenham. The double accounted for half their teams goals this season after failing to score in their opening 2 league fixtures and opening 4 in all competitions.
Salford are managed by Karl Robinson who took up the role in January 2024 after predcessor Neil Wood was sacked in December 2023 leaving the club in 21st place in League Two with Salford finishing the Season in 20th place.
Salford have named the same line up for the last two league victories however Curtis Tilt returns from suspension which may see him return to the defence.

Salford currently have the least amount of shots in League Two according to Opta with 41 compared to Walsall’s 82 but are seemingly fairly solid at the back conceeding just the 4 along with Walsall with Walsall having conceeded the fewest shots and shots on target this season in league two with 36 and 11 respectively. Finally looking at the zones of control, it looks like Walsall could have some joy down the right hand side depending if it’s (most likely) Barrett or Adomah. I’ll go for a Walsall 2-1 win in line with history however I feel if Salford get an early goal it could be another Tranmere or a 1-1 given Salford’s low scoring games this season in the league.
Thanks for that but they are only ex favourites now behind a team in Wales!!
Make that 567 - i got 2 tickets for the game earlier this afternoon. Looking forward to it!

Uncle Albert on for the last 20 minutes to leave him on his arse like the last 2 defenders he’s been up against.

According to this site, Lakin misses more than Earing on that measure as well.
