Everyone was also shit at Fleetwood to be fair.

Liam was actually slightly less shit than most.

But you’re right. I missed the “there’s been games” bit on your post. And in my eagerness to be a “man being right on football forum” I responded with more haste than I should.

As ever, you are correct.

:joy: not always correct, but I do genuinely think he’s probably been in our top three best players again this season.

And I thought he was the only one to come out of the Fleetwood game with any credit whatsoever.

I actually agree on bringing Weir in, but I think he’s been really good at 3rd centre half. And if we’re going to talk about players out of form, Taylor Allen is much further up that list than Liam Gordon for me …

And it’s a long list - unfortunately!

There’s a reason Liam Gordon is playing in League Two in his peak years.

He’s had a good season, but we all know where the deficiencies lie.

And a reason he’s a key part of the team that’s top of it.

*two seasons

I noticed yesterday Jordan was having a hard game against their winger especially with the first goal but when there was a break Sadler must have told Allen to swap with Liam to counteract this and aloud Liam to go further up field.

We are very lucky to have Liam Gordon. Best LWB since Rico and possibly best I’ve ever seen in a Walsall Shirt.

He needs compensation for his place. The thing about his delivery into the box is fake news.

Go on. Explain.

Agree with all that.

Unfortunately liam Gordon’s downfall is his final ball and as a wingback this is a pretty big part of the game. I’ve got to the point i can predict 9 times out of 10 where his crosses will end up. At the feet of the first defender. Sometimes it makes it to the second defender.

I’m the biggest Liam Gordon Truther in the world but his delivery is poor :joy:

What it has become is a way bigger issue than it needs to be. As I said his breaks have lead to as many goals as if he had a wand of a left foot, and I could pick a single fault with every single player at League Two level :man_shrugging: tiresome stuff.

I agree with @el_nombre about his assessment of Liam Gordon: he is a fine player.

It is worth pointing out that, at 25, he is a relatively experienced pro in our very young team.

For instance, Ethan Wheatley looks like a boy in men’s footballer (not surprisingly) because he is 19.

Okagbue turns 21 on Tuesday and without listing every player, we have a VERY YOUNG team.

Albert Adomah has been an amazing signing and listening to Jamma on commentary yesterday (I couldn’t attend the game unfortunately) he is so clear-minded, erudite and assured.

Hopefully, we can overcome a challenging period of the season (losing your first choice striking pair would affect any side) but that togetherness matters so much.

I know that @Stretch and @Andy_Petterson don’t always agree but a forum should allow for different viewpoints - that’s the whole point!

As a final point, the American football team I follow is the Las Vegas Raiders. After a dreadful season, they’ve gone with a 73 year old coach called Pete Carroll. In early interviews, he has emphasised two major factors needed: compete and be a good team mate.

“In order to have a good team, you need to be a good teammate - it’s that simple.”

My personal view is that Sadler has fostered that sense of togetherness and I am very proud of my football club and the players wearing the shirts are all putting a shift in.

Win, lose or draw, that’s what I expect: compete, work hard and entertain your supporters and feel proud to represent the Super Saddlers.

Regardless of how posters express it, it is abundantly clear that we have some passionate supporters who care deeply about the club and I think that’s awesome.

Top post. I agree that losing Lowe and Matt has been a crucial factor in our mini dip in form. Our starting 11 yesterday had one player aged 30 with the next oldest being in their mid twenties. The youngest team I can remember and I go back 60 odd years.
The criticism of Liam Gordon is odd to me. He is a fine player but like every player he has the occasional. drop in form. I hope he signs a new deal soon.

Looking at yesterday’s game in isolation, it felt we were the ones trying to push for the win, the ones being aggressive. Was that the most possession we’ve had in a game all season in the league 59%?. On the other side of the coin it makes us very susceptible to the counter attack, that obviously happened twice yesterday. Would we be better going back to how we was earlier on in the season with less possession and a bigger threat from our press and on the counter attack?. While also being more structured defensively?.

It’s why it’s crucial that we score the first goal, last four games we’ve conceded first and all within the first 15 minutes. Teams score early then decide to soak everything up and waste as much time as possible.

Whereas most games where we’ve been 1/2-0 up, other teams have to come out and play, meaning we can let them have the ball and counter them instead.

Not really his 3 rd season though , is it?

You do know we are top of the leauge right? Your constant insistence on this being a fluke on sadlers behalf is boring.

Can I ask, what do you really hate about Sadler and trivela?

Bet your great at parties.

I very much doubt he gets invited to parties

Yea most definitely. We’ve not been switched on from the off the last few games( albeit we started okay the first 10 in Bradford). We need to get back to doing what we do best. Aggressive and structured but most of all switched on. It’s just interesting to look at the way Fleetwood and Salford try to get us to have more possession and to exploit the spaces we give them. Of course giving them an early goal doesn’t help. I wonder whether other teams will try this tactic to beat us?. Interesting!!

You can’t help good first manning, it’s less about Liam and more about effective defenders! :no_mouth:.

But seriously it’s not great but it’s hardly like every cross is poor, he has made some excellent deliveries, his ability to beat a player waxes and wanes with his confidence. When he tries it he can carry the ball into the six yard box without the need to cross it!
