Signs a 1 year deal , decent signing
I’ve seen him against us a couple of times and thought he was a pretty reliable keeper. Was surprised to see his games played record per season is pretty modest and must have been a back up a lot of the time, because he feels like one of those names I’ve seen quite often against us.
Sounds to me like a reasonable option.
It good to have 2 decent keepers who can push each other

A really astute bit of business by the club. A solid, reliable and experienced backup to the prestigiously talented Tommy Simkin. As Tommy has been promised first team football Sam won’t rock the boat knowing he is very much Tommy’s deputy. I can’t imagine would be on a huge wage which hopefully keeps something in the pot for two much needed forwards now. Well done to all at the club for identifying him and getting the signing over the line.

Good signing - right profile for a number 2 who can hopefully push Simkin. There was talk of getting another loan keeper in and I’m really glad we’ve got someone in as a permanent. His wiki page says he went on trial at Chesterfield a month back, and it’s clear a few clubs have rated him over his career. Well done Walsall.

Watched him against Tamworth and personally I thought he looked excellent. That’s two very good players between the sticks who will push one another.
As others have mentioned let’s get a couple of decent strikers in now.

Decent bit of business that. Can’t be easy trying to convince a keeper to sign to be back up, initially at least. Probably as good as we could have hoped for in this situation.

Nice home coming too
He had interest of Chesterfield and Southend this summer reportedly. Not sure if they offered him anything but it’s nice to have another one who knows and understands the club in the squad

Another excellent acquisition and addition to the squad. The recruitment thus far, in my opinion, has been very encouraging with the new players brought in. I am still slightly concerned and apprehensive about the existing strike force that have been retained, and the prospect of Jamma and Gordon being our first choice options for the opening run in is quite alarming.
This concern will hopefully change and be alleviated quickly depending on the calibre of the two incoming strikers that we sign. As others have stated, lets hope that the recruitment for the two new striking options are equally as encouraging and exciting as the rest of the signings, and will provide some much needed reassurance and relief.

Solid signing. Maybe he won’t play many games, because of Simkin, but having someone, who will be pushing to be number one, is always good. Healthy rivalry hasn’t killed anyone.

Another really good signing by the club.
I’ve been impressed with the quality of the additions so far, I hope the same standard will be applied to the new strikers coming in.
There’s not many to choose from in our league as the quality one’s have already been snapped up by other clubs.
Maybe we’re looking at non-league gems or Championship/L1 loan players.
I hope we are NOT relying on any Eli money before we get players in because that might never happen. Remember the Troy Deeney and Rico Henry sales we were desperately waiting for; never happened. I would hold out the same hope of Eli going to Everton!

Made some excellent saves on Saturday. However he basically left all the long throws and corners for the defence to deal with for the first 80 minutes, resulted in Tamworth getting loads of free headers in the box.
I get the feeling that’s why he’s never really established himself as number one anywhere.
Still he’s experienced backup and that’s needed if Simkin has a wobble.
Why are a lot of people he’s signed as a number 2 ?
The keeper position will be decided by who’s performing the best in the next 3 games and training.
