Scunthorpe United (A) Boxing Day, 3pm

I don’t believe in booing your own player during the 90 minutes it can only have a negative affect. But I also believe Gaffney has brought this on himself he must have known that after last years relegation and the mood of the fans to our terrible start to life in this poor division shushing those who in affect pay your wages was a big mistake which some rightly so will not forgive.
This is not doing Gaffneys confidence or his career any good whatsoever. So maybe he should be the one to be the bigger man and apologise for his gesture and we all move on .

Absolutely agree with you that he wouldn’t get the stick if he was banging in the goals which is why he needs to focus on doing the business than trying to goad fans.

Anyway, let’s focus on the positives and a great result. Up the Saddlers.

I’m not disagreeing massively in general, but my God he should have buried that one on one he had in the first half. ( Good job that a certain other ‘striker’ hadn’t missed it)

haha! Good shout! but the pitch wasnt the best in the box’s

the same kind of goal against Exeter went in…Just the season we are having at the moment!

A player in a Walsall shirt who is trying but struggling to find form, puts his fingers to his lips to people booing him and gets this response, unbelievable.

Let’s not let a positive thread get derailed by such an awful player.

So you dont boo then. Why?

Because I don’t want to. What’s your point?

The crux here of course is Andy Cook did score the goals and still got a shed load of abuse near end of the season seemingly just due to his reaction at Accy unless I missed anything else obvious.

Not the point I’m making. He goaded the fans in early November, if he’d been scoring goals since then there are likely no boos today and we wouldn’t be having this discussion.

But agree, great win - UTS.

What point are you making then? I’ve said he’s not liked until he proves his worth…which as a striker means scoring goals.

Of course…they’d be singing his name…such is football

But if every single one on here regardless off the boo’s if you had too say keep or go…? Very poor, Remember when people always ranted at Josh for his lack of goals… Gaffney is that new man i fear

Oh of course now I get it, that’s why you are such a popular poster on here!

Cop out!

Can’t wait for FHTF’s repost, I’m off for a drink, more interesting.

Didnt realise UTS was a popularity competition!

So how do you gauge this popularity? Are Simon and the mods judges, with big X’s ready to push or, is it a voting system? Christ you can use this site for so long, yet not have a clue how it all works.

Anyway, Darrel is a nob and our team are shite, just like they always have been and everything is crumbling round our ears. Enjoy that drink…

This is a fantastic result for us against the form team in the division. I would always take a draw away from home as drawing all away games and winning all at home is promotion form. Obviously getting the results at home is the key now.

On the team selection, and to anyone questioning the inclusion of Kinsella on the right. No he is not a right winger, but if you play 2 wingers away from home you’d get slaughtered. Clarke gets this very right in my opinion as Kinsella offers cover defensively but the engine to get forward and support. He is not going to take anyone on but he also won’t waiver his efforts.

Bates is going to be one hell of a player for us. It’s just unfortunate that his age will mean that his form will dip in and out while he gain consistency through experience otherwise I would soon get rid of Guthries wages for someone more attacking. I think Bates and Guthrie are the same type of player.

On Wes, let’s be honest, if it wasn’t for his lack of league games and injury record then he’d be playing for Sunderland now and not us. If we do have some in the pot for jan then keeping him and adding a second version of him would be my priority. The guy can blow hot and cold but is unplayable on his day, he is still young in football terms so is still finding that consistency.

We are very solid at the back now though which is great to see, you can’t lose if you don’t concede. We are moving in the right direction.

I don’t promote booing anyone, that being said, if I were gaffney then I would be trying to prove myself to the fans, most players would tell you that the adulation is the most missed part of the game after retirement. I think the relationship between him and the club seems sour and I wouldn’t be looking to keep him on after Jan.

Viewing objectively, if fans of any team begin booing individual players, they surely, for that moment, stop being supporters and are actively undermining the team.

This has the potential for short term consequences - drop in performance of the individual and team, and longer term consequences - other players not signing contracts due to this negativity.

I think everyone has sighed, tutted, shaken our heads etc, but booing players? That’s another level.
