And not missing a trick, at the final whistle Dave Bathurst announced that videos of the game would be available to order from the club shop (obviously aimed at the Chelsea fans).
I think that got a mention in the BBC report. Would still have been Sport on Two then, I think.
And Kevin Wilson notched one of the others.
He wasnāt quite what I had in mind.
Donāt remind me. I probably did most of the copies. Best seller of the season so I was told.
And I won correct score bet at 100/1 I also won at the same odds the next day when it was Wrexham 0 Everton 5
One of my better betting weeks. Mainly downhill since those heady days lol
I know he wasnāt the best, itās just the memory of seeing him run out and striking the ball into the laundry end when I was a kid.
All about opinions but Gerrard close to premier league , not for me . not even close.
Fox didnāt play left back the season we won the League, Kris Taylor, Fox played left midfield, which actually probably made us even more solid.
Premier League standard may be a bit over the top but by the time Bonser sold the crown jewels, that defence was almost unplayable.
Ince was great for us as you say but he was indeed well protected.
All he ever did was have to catch the ball, dont remember him ever making an actual save
I agree with this Whereās the individual brilliance we used to see from players? There is rarely any now heās right they are athletes these days who can run and run and have strength and power there isnt a player alive these days with the Technical ability the likes of Giggs Pirlo Gascoigne Ronaldo(the Brazilian one) Ronaldinho and even further back George best you just donāt see these players anymore.
Being an athlete and being a baller are not mutually exclusive. You need to be an athlete nowadays to compete. If you are an athlete as well as a baller then you are the dogs bollocks.
Itās a fair point but he would say that cause he couldnāt stay fit for 5 minutes him. Rinsed millions as a cripple.
I think from an āEnglishā point of view itās the opposite.
We didnāt produce that many like Beardsley Waddle, Barnes , Gazza, Hoddle ā¦ especially more so in to the 90s, 00s and 10s where we had top quality Becks, Lampard, Gerrard but only say a Joe Cole or Scholes In that purest sense
Nower days and perhaps itās down to Academy coaching
Or perhaps itās down to two decades of the EPL show casing top technical foreign talent influencing kids
But we have so many of these players, Grealish, Maddison. Jude. Foden. Eze. Saka , Mainoo, Palmer plus a load more.
I think this transfers down the Divisions. To get players like Hutch, Earing, Jellis etc
We were sat on the bus on Hilary street when we went 5 down, my dad obviously decided he couldnāt take any more.
Didnt barber just do his side stepping for the penalty rather than a dive and went the wrong way?
Back on Topic. I thought Simkinās double save yesterday was outstanding and should put aside all chances of him being dropped.
Saw something the other day (might even have been on here?), that the amount of shots taken from outside of the box has reduced massively in the last 10 years or so. Players are generally discouraged from doing so now, as stats say the chance is greater inside the box.
Detracts from the game though, canāt beat a 25 yard screamer, like Jellis the other week.
Shots or goals? It could be because players are getting better at selecting when to shoot from outside, and scoring from a higher percentage when they do.
Iām not saying this had anything to do with Fred Barber, but I think at the time there were quite a few players at the club who were on relatively high wages that were given out when we were flush, that the club were trying to renegotiate.
Hard to judge a goalkeeper in a team so far out of its depth as that one was to be fair.
