Apparently you werenā€™t the only one.

seems decent but we need another experienced keeper to deal with loss of form and confidence. Some of the best walsall teams (pretty obvious you havent witnessed any of those based on your posts) have had 2 good keepers

walker and wood partnership springs to mind

this costs money Boycott if your reading

Who is that aimed at? :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Nothing. Just my experience in watching walsall for 47 years that to he successful you need 2 good keepers. This is ok for one the other one needs to be experienced. Lots of suggestions on this site about doing things on the cheap to make excuses for Trivela not spending any money. eg having the youth team one as back up.

it wonā€™t work !!!

Letā€™s hope Boycott gets his finger out

Super Saddler Seb has put some good highlights in his latest vid for Simkin. Looks a good player to me:

Donā€™t think anyone has suggested that will actually happen. More have said that we need to bring in a goalkeeper to rival him, doesnt necessarily mean they have to have experience.

Sounds like a really good young player/prospect. But to me thereā€™s just something not right about having a loan keeper as first choice, and I felt exactly the same about Rushworth.
All the best to him. :+1:

Welcome to Walsall and good luck, Simo!

With all due respect your showing your inexperience there in only supporting Walsall during pretty desperate and miserable perods and making assumptions which wonā€™t work. The best teams always had permanent goalkeepers pushing each other not young kids on loan

Iā€™d be surprised (or would I) if you hadnt heard of Jimmy Walker, Ron Green, Mick Kearns etc ?

Course Iā€™ve heard of them :joy:

Doesnā€™t mean that is what we need right now.

Majority of signings we make now are ones we can develop, we donā€™t have a contracted keeper that is ā€œoursā€ at the club, which is why signing a youngish keeper on a 2/3 year deal and developing them alongside Simkin would be the best route to go down, weā€™ve tried it by offering Jackson a new deal and heā€™s turned it down and especially if Simkin was ever to be recalled, so then weā€™ve got someone in long term rather than a 35 year old keeper warming the bench on his last pay day with zero resale value.

This is why i suggested Louie Moulden, pretty much perfect for what we should be going for.

Use Crawley as an example last seson, their two keepers had a total of 32 EFL appearances between them before last season, both at 25/26 years old.

Doncasterā€™s Lo-Tutala, 5 EFL appearances before last season, with a backup keeper with 40 appearances at 25 years old.

Wrexham had the best keeper in the league last season, 23 EFL appearances before last season.

Jackson Smith, 2 EFL appearances before last season.

Donā€™t necessarily need experience, just the right players to give competition, times have changed.

Love the shirt. That would have made a good 2nd strip.

To be honest, football has changed a lot since then.

I am more concerned about lack of quality in other areas. If we can get a good goalkeeper on loan without too much outlay, and spend it on better players at the other end of the pitch, then that will benefit us. In an ideal world we would have a Jimmy Walker but they donā€™t come around that often.

Iā€™m not even defending the club here, I am not overall happy with where we are right now, but give them chance to show their hand, and at least accept that there is more than one way of doing things.

In his first spell with us Kearns hardly missed a game, and on one occasion when he did have an injury we brought in Graham Moseley on loan, after Ron Green struggled on his debut.
When Green was injured in 83-84 we signed Tony Godden on loan and dragged Kearns from behind the bar to play a few matches.
The back-up to Jimmy for a couple of seasons was young Danny Naisbitt, who never played, and we won promotion with that set-up.

Different days back then, but Iā€™m not really sure what point you are trying to make.

Most people have worked him out. Itā€™s intriguing that a few do not seem to be asking themselves the obvious question: if someone is repeatedly posting crap, might it be deliberate?
