I don’t think that it is just us that have lots of injuries, based on what I read regarding our opponents team news before each game.
Just symptomatic of the modern game, its demands and what is considered “fit” compared to years gone by.
Mat Sadler talked about injuries at the recent meet the manager event.
He thought that part of the reason could be the amount of extra minutes referees were (still are?)
adding to the ninety.
Does anyone know whether other clubs have a lot of players out injured?
Wolves have
How do you know we don’t have one? As others have said lots of clubs have numbers out. Our problem is that ours are concentrated in two key areas …Central defence and up front. Pity we don’t have some youngsters ready to step in even for a few minutes. Hopefully DJ and Jellis will be fit soon.
I agree.
It’s very symptomatic of how the games played now and the strains put on to the players bodies and the rigours of the schedules, particularly in the EFL and the physical nature of league 1 and 2.
Looking at our longer term injuries how many could’ve been avoided?
Preistly - Impact?
Donervan - Impact?
Knowles - Impact?
DJ - Domestic impact.
Stirk - Impact?
Oteh - Muscular (but I think he has history with his hamstrings)
Oisin - Muscular?
Tierney - Muscular?
Jamma - Muscular (but he has history and it’s probably age related to a degree)
Jellis - Muscular but done prior to joining
I’m not sure we could really lay the blame at the clubs conditioning staff….
The new substitution rules should compensate for that I would have thought. You can substitute half of your outfield team if you wish.
I haven’t looked into it, and don’t follow football all that closely these days other than Walsall but I doubt it is just us that suffers.
Wasn’t Elton John our biggest singing down the Bescot (just joking)
Don’t think we will be singing him again he’s crocked can’t get of his piano stool
Don’t let you sun go down of me.
I remember when Merson first took over as manager (I know, gives me nightmares too) he said that he couldn’t remember a single game playing for Arsenal where he didn’t have a knock or pain of some description. He said he never said anything because he wanted to play. I just wonder about the mentality of some players these days.
I know quite a few of our players now who are playing with an injury, but it catches up with you eventually.
I thought I’d seen something more recent than this (Nov 23) and i know it’s only about the Premier League but this article references “a 15% increase compared with the past four campaigns.”
And this article talks more in depth (about that same survey?) without really providing any definitive answers…lots of “possibly” and “maybes” in there:-
Football injuries are on the rise. Will AI solve the problem? | Premier League | The Guardian.
Tom Knowles looking to be out for around another three to five weeks
Should be back for the play offs
“He’s a crock it man.”
Well he’s proved he’s not Captain Scarlett (one for us older ones)
I would love to believe that Bags, but I don’t see how as he was in a cast and on crutches after the FGR game. It was a bad tackle that went unpunished - way too many of those in this league, no wonder there are so many injuries.
I hope you’re right though.
It wasn’t that bad, i was standing right in line with it and it’s the way his leg/knee twisted as he went down.
I was told middle of April for his return and the Express and Star article yesterday states four to six weeks, so the same sort of time frame.
He had a boot on in the away end with us fans at Colchester.
My missus spotted him at her gym earlier. No boot or anything on.
Your missus must have caught a right eyeful then
