He did seem a little downcast, and combined with George Barrett’s questioning in the E&S, he appears to be a man under pressure with nowhere to hide.
It is a really strange defensive response isn’t it ?
I’ve watched it a few times now… it’s weird.
Surely he could have answered that in countless of easier or more friendly/informative ways…
“It’s something we are working on behind the scenes and we hope to get in the right players before the window ends”
For example… is an easy thing to say in response to that question.
Does he feel let down by those above him?. Does he feel let down by agents and potential players that were coming in but now aren’t?. Does he feel let down by Tom asking him a question he clearly didn’t want asking?. Answer will probably all 3, but what he must do is give informative answers to give to the supporters. He literally inspires nobody…fans included
I’ve got no sympathy for him to be honest - he chose to sign Matt, Gordon and DJT so tough.
Agreed mate
“We’ll see” did seem out of kilter with the rest of his answers. I will take the optimistic line and say that 2 are on the way in.
It took me some time to work it out as a kid, but when my Mom said “We’ll see” It always meant no!
Exactly the same with my mom.
The opposite with mine! Funny old world…
That’s how I’ve always seen “we’ll see”
Not a fan of Sadler, but I’d imagine that Jamma was signed up as a bit part player with an eye to having an experienced forward around, and that DJT was signed up with the intention of sending him on loan to Drogheda to see if he could finally make something of his career.
Gordon is all his fault (although rumours were that we weren’t interested, and then there was a change of heart when maybe a target or two fell through), and who really knows the DJ situation, but I absolutely believe no one wanted us to go into the season with only Matt and Gordon up front. Does show naivety on the part of all involved though, anyone with any experience of football and Walsall FC could tell you we will always be a last resort for any player of note.
He definitely looks very unhappy in that interview. Almost as though he’s feeling the pressure because he knows what’s coming.
I hope I’m wrong and we fly out of the blocks , if we start badly it’s not going to take long before the atmosphere turns toxic, something I absolutely don’t want to happen.
Like i have said before, more often than not it has been the clubs fault and not the manager, but at the same time Sadler doesn’t help himself
I agree mate, the problems have lay far deeper in the past than the manager. However this is Sadlers team now he has a season under his belt and there can’t be any excuses….
He should have been expecting it after the rubbish we’ve played recently.
With mine it was more can I have some chisel toes “We’ll see” I got a pair of tuf
I remember Tuf!
To try to put a positive slant, how about this. The Walsall PR team are hopeless interviewers and almost always answer the question they are asking themselves. If we assume the questioner knew there were some signings in the offing, he might have tried to lead Sadler on but Sadler did not want to reveal anything, hence his irritation and desire to move on.
It’s not brilliant but it’s not impossible either.
At the end of the solihull game tom was setting up his interview equipment… i asked him to ask sadler if he intends to play the ball on the floor at any point to which he just smiled… im gonna find it difficult to watch the defenders hoofing the ball up field to noone then the other team trying to break us down for 90mins… the football is awful… it was nice to see liam gordon shouting to simkin to hurry the fook up as it all seemed abit laboured and has all preseason
This is probably the main area Jackson Smith was good at, getting the game moving again quickly, gives the opposition less chance to get their shape, puts us on the front foot. I can remember a couple of goals from quick Jackson smith turn around, he may have even got an assist if I remember right.
Traditionally, the team that plays the last pre-season game starts the season opener. With Gordon and Matt up front, surely that inspires fear (or laughter) into our opponents.
We’ve brought in some decent players, but nobody good enough to replace Hutch who was vital to us last season. His loss will be felt greatly this season.
It’s almost impossible to imagine starting the season with the same two inept strikers as we did last season, excluding Draper and Faal of course.
Like others, I fear for Sadler’s job if we have a slow start. Trivela aren’t idiots and will act quickly to replace him if things go pear shaped (which I fear it will).
I will feel a lot more confident if we can bring in some quality this week, but according to the manager, his “well see” means no! At least that’s what I interpret him saying.
I can’t remember being so gloomy for the season opener for ages. There usually some degree of excitement around here when the season starts, but it’s difficult to find any enthusiasm in my house right now.
I can see it happening this week, our usual last minute panic buys, that’s not going to work Trivela, the fans have had enough and will revolt in numbers, so they should too. Enough is enough for God’s sake!
