Stay or go?

Clash of opinions on this thread.

Knowles has driven me crazy this season, but since hes been out the team i feel we have missed him. Gives the opposition alot to worry about with his energy, even if he always makes the wrong decision in a 50/50

It depends which division, but from loaned players I would try to sign Okagbue. From contracted players, I dunno if Matt has enough fuel in the tank. Riley probably release, Evans release, Smith sign him for few years, Oteh has an contract option, so probably will stay, Williams has an option too, Allen, Foulkes sign, Menayese, tough choice, probably depends where he and club see the future, DJT loan him, where he get minutes, Knowles release if another season of pushing him into position, where he feels uncomfortable. Other players are contracted, so it depends if and where.
E: Gordon, release, similar situation to Knowles.

I think we look at knowles final ball at times and diss the lad,we forget how hard he works going backwards though.
Hes far from great but always puts his shift in and works hard for the defence

He gets the club and the fans i like that and he does offer something i think he will probably stay just unsure if him and Foulkes are enough same as the left though are Liam Gordon and Evan Weir enough?

I would be astonished if we offered Menayese a new contract.

No chance

I don’t know who will be playing in the defence next season, so there will be some shuffling and who knows, maybe someone will be rollin to the first team. It’s too early, only I hope the club keeps some options active.

Daniels, Farquharson, McEntee, Weir, Williams, Allen, possibly Okagbue and maybe Adegboyega for another season, absolutely no chance Meneyese stays here with the numbers we’ll have at the back.

Some are loans, some injured, some can lack experience and on and on. If strikers were resurrected from nothingness, why defenders cor go the same way? I only know, or rather strongly suspect, if scoring roughly 1,5 goal per game is enough, conceding a similar number of goals wouldn’t be. And returning to my original message, it depends if the club sees him in the plans and if he sees staying in the club in his plans.

Things could change before the end of the season still but here’s what I think:

It’s clear to me that Mayo, Riley and very likely Evo will be off in the summer.

Knowles and Oteh I think have contract extension options in the clubs favour? Think we should keep both. Oteh showed a lot of promise before he got injured.

If Jamma can keep his fitness up I’d love him to stay.

Taylor Allen, Joe Foulkes and Jackson Smith should be signed up.

If a decent bid comes in for Hutch then we should let him leave.

Not sure at all what’s going on with DJ - expected him to go in January to be honest! - Not good for him to be warming the bench all the time or Walsall as he’s going to be on decent money.

I’d maybe see if DJT fancies a spell in Ireland with the Drogs, and I’d be dissappointed to see him leading the Walsall line next season…unless his performances improve.

Josh Gordon, Faal both good players who’d offer a lot - particularly Faal who’s going to develop into a top player - don’t think we have much of a chance of signing him though - or Okagbue or Manny for that matter. Only loan I don’t think we should try and sign is Ross Tierney as he’s been off it recently - but that could change.

?
Isaac Hutchinson. Regardless to what division we’re in he’ll be off.
Jamille Matt. Earnt another 12 months
Tom Knowles. We are imo better with him in the squad at wing back if we aren’t prepared to get another one then keep.
Joe Foulkes. Give him 12 months with a further 12 months in clubs favour.
Jackson Smith. 2 year deal.
Taylor Allen. 2 year deal.
Douglas Taylor. Release.
Danny Johnson. Rip up contact, Sadler don’t use him.
Dave. Another 12 month loan
Adeboyega. Try and tie him down but will be hard
Josh Gordon. Bye bye
Mo Faal. I think this lad will be an asset to us if signed on a contract just can’t see it thou.
Ross Tierney. Send back.
Owen Evans. Won’t stay to play 2nd fiddle at this stage of his career.
Oteh. Release
Rolling Meneyase. Rip up contact

The site above has these players as being OoC at the end of the season.

Owen Evans - a great first season, but has rightly been displaced this season by Smith, who seems the better all-round keeper, although I don’t think there is too much in it. Think he’ll go.
Tom Knowles - when he plays, he frustrates, more so due to his perceived lack of end product. I will admit he has shown we miss him since being out injured. Really seems to care about the club. If the club do have an option in our favour, then I think they’ll take it.
Jackson Smith - see Owen Evans. Think he’ll stay and continue being first choice next season.
DJT - Sadler obviously sees something in him, so who knows what will happen here. In my opinion, he hasn’t shown enough to warrant a new deal, but maybe he’ll be shipped off on loan if he does get a new deal.
Joe Riley - came with so much promise, but we’ll never know due to the injury he sustained not long after signing. Think he’ll go.
Aramide Oteh - again another with an option in the clubs favour? If so, keep him. He has had injuries, but I feel he has shown enough to be a good player and member of the squad moving forwards.
Harry Williams - I don’t think he was signed to play much first team football, but early injuries meant he was put into the team and he performed well enough. Injuries have then ended his season, but I can see him being offered a new deal. Maybe even loan him out to a NL team.
Taylor Allen - on the back of his inclusion post Christmas, you’d say sign him up. Performed really well, but my only thoughts are, will Sadler keep him at CB next season alongside the Priest and DD? Either way, proven himself worthy of a new deal and an very good player to have tied down seeing as he can play numerous positions.
Rollin Menayese - think he’ll go. Hadn’t really done anything since signing his permanent deal when we still had Matty Taylor in charge, after fantastic performance pre completion.
Jamille Matt - useful to have in the squad for his experience to pass on. Maybe a deal which would have elements of coaching responsibilities maybe? I can’t see him starting regularly, but definitely see a use for him.
Joe Foulkes - keep as back up, depending on how Sadler sees Knowles playing next season. If we do sign another RWB I can’t see how Foulkes would get much game time at all.

Then you have all of the loans who will return; Tierney, Faal, Gordon, Okagbue and Adeboyaga. Out of those 5, I think only Okagbue’s deal expires in June. All the other have contracts until at least 2025.

If Dave was released, I could see us going for him, but so would other clubs based on his performances here. Stoke may even want to keep him, as they’ve had a very poor season.

I’m sure I read somewhere that Sadler said we tried to sign both Gordon and Faal permanently in January, so maybe this is something we will go back in for, for at least one of them? Faal being very raw, shows promise. And Gordon, even though he doesn’t score much, his workrate is so important to how Sadler wants to play. I think Tierney will go back to Motherwell and the only way we’ll potentially see Adeboyaga again is if we get promoted as I think Norwich will want his next loan to be in League 1. A little bit like Brighton did with Rushworth.

Some opportunity to ship out big earners who Sadler doesn’t fancy / haven’t delivered / have out grown us.

Hutchinson. It’s time to cash in with some nice little incentives if he kicks on Very much job done. Took from a bigger club - given time.

Taylor Allen surprised us all, I’m not saying he’s Scott Dann levels, but Dann went from Scrap Heap to key player. Nice to see. I see him as a bit of a Chris Marsh early to mid 90s versatile. Loves playing for the club.

Earing and Comley great pair. Hope we look after them.

Not so keen on DD. Not sure he gets much better ? He’s a mid table L2 defender. Not a disaster if he was to be around.

We need to look after Jacko really like him. Say good bye to Evo.

He has had some cock ups this season but I think he is a class act in the dressing room and a great player to have around the younger lads. Plus he adds to our attacking threat with his ability to come forward from defence.

Imo he’s a top end L2 defender, if not a solid mid-table L1 defender.

Agreed. Very undecided. I have really enjoyed him being part of it, he’s been great for almost all of his time here but I think we need to be looking towards quicker ball playing defenders.

I don’t think/hope we will be in for any of the loanees. I can’t see Adegboyega being cut loose from his club and if not moved on to league one (unless we are there).

The others not bothered about. Maybe Faal, but wouldn’t really be bothered either way.

I’m a big Owen Evans fan, and think a couple of dodgy displays this season have undermined some fantastic performances especially last season, but I’d release him. He’s on first choice wages sitting on the bench as a sub keeper.

I’d release Tom Knowles. Sadler is going to be here next season and he simply doesn’t play with wingers which is Knowles actual position. Shame.

Smith, obviously keep.

James-Taylor, obviously release. Terrible signing considering what we already knew about him and so it proved.

Riley, release. Another shame, I don’t think we’ve seen the best of him at all. I’ve liked him when I’ve seen us play against him and Carlisle were gutted he went, but looks very effected by injuries.

Oteh, release although wouldn’t be devastated to see him retained. He has a spark about him off the bench.

Williams, release. I think he’s looked poor when given a chance.

Taylor Allen, sure fire keep. I’d have never have said that 12 months ago.

Menayese, release obviously

Matt, maybe keep but age is an issue now

Foulkes definitely keep.

As for Hutchinson, I can actually see him being here next season. If he wasn’t in contract I’d say league one all day, but a good deal will need to be negotiated to take him away, which I can’t see coming in and if it did … I’d be fine with taking the money and the potential windfall further down the line.

I don’t understand why fans complain about us selling our best players and then are easy with Hutchinson going. We should do all we can to keep him - he is under contract after all - and only let him go for a very large amount of money.
