Agreed, if possible we should do absolutely everything to keep Hutchinson for another season. Take his goals, assists and general contributions out of this team and we’d be looking at another awful season. Anonymous at times yes (this is league two) but he is by a country mile our star player.
….but if we get a ludicrous offer and he’s playing up and wants out then yes rightly cash in
A lot of people casually saying “let hutch go. Take the money” as if players like him are easy to replace.
I hope they’re right. . . but I don’t think so.
If he is unwilling to sign an extension, then I would like to see us move him on in the summer, so long as we get a good deal and don’t settle like previously. I’d also like the deal to include future incentives which have good potential to be triggered.
It’ll be hard to replace him, but that’s what clubs like our face. I think even if we were to get promoted, he’d still want to move on, although I could be wrong.
People can moan about hutch all they like but without him this season we’d be closer to relegation than promotion.
I think he’s been over played and he’s suffering at the moment for that but that’s a level of his importance to us that it’s literally been impossible to rest him.
Also……as much as I agree he’s not been at the level he’s set recently he gets really unfair criticism and is a victim of his own standards because during what many consider to be his poorest spell of the season…of the last 20 goals we’ve scored he’s either scored, assisted or had an involvement in the build up of 16 of them!!!
He does a lot of unnoticed stuff that’s really NOT greedy at all.
Last weeks winner and yesterdays opener it was his calmness under pressure to find simple pass as opposed to kicking it anywhere that allowed Manny and then Foulkes to assist. It’s so easily overlooked.
On topic….i think he’ll go in the summer for sure….Knowles will be extended for sure as will Allen and Jamille which gives us a very good starting point but goals from midfield will be very hard to replace.
My personal view is that fans are not saying ‘let Hutch go’ but ‘Hutch will go’ because he is capable of playing at a higher level: stats prove that.
When Sawyers left, Oztumer came in to replace him.
Evolution is part of every football club and most Walsall fans I know would be happy to see Hutch move on for his own career, playing at a higher level.
I am heartened that most Walsall fans in here are pretty much in agreement about the current squad.
The key will be trying to unearth the next Tom Bradshaw. I think Freddie Draper came mighty close but it would be lovely not to have to rely on a loan striker (again).
As for DJT, regardless of what fans think, we’re not the manager. I wonder whether Sadler will give him one more year but a loan to Drogheda (or maybe Tamworth or Rushall) sounds like a good idea to me!
Given that Newport posted losses of over £900k this season, would anyone take Will Evans?
This is an interesting article that mentions his contract situation and Farq:
It’s also worth knowing that Newport were in for Draper in the summer, before our Drogheda links proved to be a factor that gave us some intel which we could use to persuade Lincoln to agree to his loan move to us.
26, strong and knows where the goal is. I think that his wages would be realistic and if we were to make him the main man alongside an experienced mentor (Matt) and a young gun (Faal), I think that he could do everything that Gordon does, but he could also weigh in with more significant goal contributions.
Agree with all of that the only way we replace him is if we go out and get a Kemp or a Jack Payne which will cost us and would they come here? Be nice if Hutch stayed but i can’t see it with his stats. And he’s played 100 games in 2 seasons so the lad is probably knackered and needs a rest.
I think we will need to change our system if/when Hutch leaves, but Jellis and Maher should get more opportunities next season and I still believe that Earing can play in a variety of positions across the midfield.
“Stay or go “. Well of all the players mentioned on this thread up to yet .only one player Hutchinson is going to have the most impact on how we take the success this season into a promotion push next season and add vital signings next season you can be pretty sure of that.losing him would be a massive step back .does he want to go ? Do Trivela have the ambition next season for a promotion push ? And keep him for another season.without losing out financially all those things can be sorted if the desire is there from both sides .
I am slightly concerned we will struggle to find a striker who can score goals and do the off the ball work Sadler clearly demands. Such players are not very common and won’t come cheap.
I guess we’ll have to have to come to an agreement to let DJ go. A waste of wages for a 5th choice striker only trusted to appear for a few minutes as a last throw of the dice.
Shame that it didn’t work out differently, but best for both parties to go their separate ways.
Wonder how many DJ is a red tshirts will need to go off to the incinerator!
Would definately keep Knowles he offers that directness and pace and is improving his end product, id try and sign J Gordon permanently yeh he doesnt score enough but pair him with an out and out goalscorer he will do the hard work and be front foot on that press
When hutch goes the only player we have that could maybe do what he does will be Maher but being a lot younger he would be more inconsistent and fans would need to accept that as he learns x
On Hutchinson if he does leave id rather the deal be done within a few weeks of window opening, rather than have the 2 months of is he staying or not then on deadline day at 11:45pm he gets sold and got no time to react and get in a replacement- unless you consider maher as the potential ready made replacement
