Summer Transfer Rumours 2022

Bang on.
This was also a key to Flynn’s success at Newport.

So far the signings we have made

Liam gordon - non league player
Oshin mcentee - see above
Peter clark - squad player due to age 2-4 years too late
Liam bennett - non league
Taylor allen -non league
Brandon comley - non league
Joe riley - good accusition
Andy williams - see Clarke
Signings not really getting anyone off there seats… will be lucky to finish above bottom 4… pay peanuts

Based on what? Liam Gordon won promotion from this league with Bolton, played in league 1 20 plus times last season and now he is non league standard?

Mcentee - must be decent to be on Newcastle’s books, Ireland U21 international

Could go through the list but lets just wait and see who else we sign and see how we go

He was playing national league last season with dagenham and redbridge and he only played 14times in a 46game season that season for bolton

Im really struggling to understand how anyone can be excited for the season with the players we have signed

Not excited but not writing them all off before a ball has been kicked either

We alm agree Flynn is experiebced,a good league 2 manager and knows yhd league.
He had time to look sat what he inherited and came to same conclusion as majority of us.
This is now his team and will be judged on results,so lets give him a chance, non of us can read Flynns plans and can predict his signings
We will have to see what the season holds

Not writing them off just going on where they played last season… if you have too many non league players in your squad then you become non league

We seem on the face of it to have not spent what we did last year on our budget. So hoping he has a good wedge left for forward thinking players.

So far the signings we have made

Liam gordon - Won promotion out of this league with Bolton

Oshin mcentee - Republic of Ireland U21 player who has captained Newcastle’s academy team

Peter clark - Hugely experienced defender at this level, getting into League 2 Team of the Year last season. Age is irrelevant.

Liam bennett - Inexperienced, but one Cambridge fans seemed to want to play for them in League 1.

Taylor allen - Back up to Gordon without needing to overspend and can play in several positions, local lad, so worth the risk of a 1 year deal.

Brandon comley - International midfielder who like Gordon, has won promotion out of this league, gives us another option for a protector midfielder if Kinsella gets injured

Joe riley - good accusition (I agree)

Andy williams - Experienced centre forward who has scored goals at this level throughout his career, will give experience to the other forwards we bring in and give us a different option.

Our defence looks fantastic, and this keeper looks very good… we have an experienced midfield with some quality at this level… an experienced head up front… if we supplement what we have now with 4 quality attack minded players… that’s a decent side is it not ?

Agree if we sign some decent attacking players i will be excited for the new season at the moment its all a bit meh.But saying that Newport fans say Flynn does this and gets the best out of players you don’t expect to be that good

For Montserrat. Weren’t Milan Butterfield and Maz Kouyar full internationals?

Isn’t Donervan Daniels also a Montserrat international? Don’t see anyone slagging him off!

Don’t see anyone slagging this lad off either, just pointing out that playing for minor international teams means absolutely sod all. Could be class, I just wouldn’t be using that as a selling point.

Smith signed Purkiss and Featherstone from a Hereford side relegated out of the Football League the season prior, and both were perfectly adequate (at worst) in League One.

Similarly, Wrack and Brissett had been released by Grimsby and Bournemouth respectively, when Graydon picked them up- both were subsequently first XI regulars in a team that finished above Man City.

This is why I put limited stock in a player’s most recent history; it often tells us little about how they might fit into whatever the contemporary context of WFC is. There are plentiful examples to be found in reverse too (Labadie being the most immediate example).

Need at least 4 or 5 really good forward players otherwise cannot see us finishing higher than 18th or 19th. Players simply not good enough. Look at Haynes who signed for Northampton vs Liam Gordon. Haynes on paper is by far the better aquisition. Played far more League 2 games and far more at a higher level. Seems were spending even less since the takeover. But hey that’s not what people want to hear is it.

I hope we do well

Nowt wrong with posting your views on the signings and takeover, everyone has different opinions, but posting the same rehashed paragraph over and over again like some forgetful mood hoover just becomes a bit tedious.

That’s the thing though isn’t it? They might be better acquisitions on paper but until we actually see them play, who knows? Joss Labadie was seen as a good acquisition last summer with plenty of experience at this level, captaining one of the better, more consistent teams in this division.

It’s all horses for courses and it seems like Flynn is signing players that suit the way he wants to play. Given the way he managed to cobble something together last season from the players at his disposal, I’ve got full faith in him
