Taylor out?

I agree. He is consistently our best midfielder. And he deserves all of his man of the matches and player of the season awards. I guess it just depends where you consider the bar to be.

Whatever position he plays in, we need him.

Fans like him as well piss will boil if he is sold.

Metric for Taylor now has to be how many points off 7th place in May the team is.

I think it was pretty optimistic anyone expecting top 3 challenge back in August but really it shouldn’t take an endless amount of things to go right to have a shot at 7th.

10 + points off 7th is very poor season for me and looking more likely by the week now.

Why isn’t he playing for a better team?

Has anyone wondered that? Why he hasn’t been picked up and signed by teams higher up?

I am past discussing it, but the point I am trying to make is that this squad is really really poor, or more so imbalanced - with hardly any stand out, consistent players that will drive a team to promotion.

Kinsella is far from the biggest problem in this side, but it’s just an example of how low the bar has been lowered in terms of what a ‘good’ or ‘best’ player is now.

In fairness there was interest after relegation I think, think Oxford were mentioned.

He’s grown up in area and pretty settled and think he should be applauded for loyalty post relegation.

I do agree he’s never going to be lynchpin midfield like Chambers was in some of the excellent DS teams, he’s just not that good.

Anyone think badge man would be in for him?

Yup.

Yeah exactly. I think his attitude and combative style of play are brilliant - and certainly deserves plaudits for trying and battling every game…. 10/10 for attitude and work rate.

But I’m just not swept away by him being ‘the best’ in pure side. It’s a low bar. Just being realistic. Sometimes that is hard to hear when it’s one of your own.

Nah he wrote Kinsella off as well (and went back on it). Wasn’t a massive fan I don’t think. You could tell the players Clarke liked and didn’t. Some would be dropped for the slightest error. Some would play no matter what.

I think looking at these posts there is a general agreement that we are better with him than without , how much we need him is down to personal opinion (that’s football) .

I would not stand in Kinsella’s way if a club like Millwall came in for him or a club in the top half of league one.

However, I imagine that Pomlett would rather cut off one of his tentacles (from his octopus) than do any kind of business with the husband of Barbara Woodhouse!

We were 11th this time last year. The annual fire sale in January meant 11th became 19th.

We’re currently 15th so on a like for like basis we have got worse. It is just a question of our January business in relation to the competition. We usually have worse post January seasons partly as a result of the business we do, but also a result of the business others do.

Objectively, the squad Fullerton built Aug-Jan is worse than the squad Clarke built for the same period last year.

Clarke had Holden available is the only mitigating argument against an assertion that our six year continuous descent is still in train.

I think it’s more about how many points we will be above 23rd at this rate! Another piss-poor season with nothing to shout about. Just watched Cambridge on MOTD beating Newcastle at St Jame’s Park, with the players putting their bodies on the line for their club and supporters. Fair play to them! We can only dream about having a team like that.

You touch on it but we now have a management team of Taylor , McDonald and Fullerton yet we’ve gone backwards… it’s mind boggling

What’s frustrating for me… is all the good will and bounce was there after Port Vale away….

And it’s all fizzled out.

It really is galling.

Like Sinclair! What a poor, limited footballer he was. Not fit to lace Kinsella’s boots.

Let’s be honest , the same could be said about Taylor.

I think some of the concerns we had about Fullerton are coming to fruition. A poor, unbalanced squad, and the lack of a striker that we actually own must be a first in the history of this club.
What kind of DOF thinks that’s acceptable? It’s remiss of his role, surely ? I did feel sorry for MT but I’m also questioning WTF he is coaching. We are so disorganised in defence it’s laughable

Think it’s still 10 + points above 23rd. Serious danger of relegation would mean a Dutton style run for next four months if say 45 points or so is usually what you need to stop up.

Checked back to Clarke’s final game and team were 6 points off 7th then. Not going to insult anybodies IQ by saying team would’ve got in them if he’d stayed the full season given the mediocre form but it does get hard to defend Taylor if gap goes 10-15 points in next 6 games.

I have felt an undercurrent of discontent in the last couple
Of home games (prior to Wilkinson’s goal of course).

I actually think we will be ok, and just continue to the run of win, lose, draw in 3 game spells.

But I do sense that the fans will turn quickly if we go on a 3/4 game losing run or something.

This, of course, could be alleviated by getting a bit of positivity, and excitement back into the club with some good signings etc. but we all know that won’t be the case.
