The Belt and Braces Approach

Hilarious. Love it. Its written in the stars. Senior pros come back in to replace the performing younger players having propelled us up the table.

Walsall 0 - Barrow 3. (12 minutes)

Carry on with the posts. It’s making my night and providing with much needed entertainment

No problem.

You’ve got so many things right this season who am I to argue with you……

Maybe DD has a contract review clause and we can let him go……

I won’t even bother going back over your posts on mat Sadler….and I’m almost certain previous posts on Taylor Allen will mirror those you posted on Isaac Hutchinson and im pretty sure you’ll have had plenty to say on Dave Akagbue prior to Xmas too……

You’re the man. I bow to your all encompassing superior football knowledge

Gensanx talks shite, but the irony in that last sentence breaks the gauge.

Agreed! No coincidence for me that LG has improved recently. TA has given him a bit more freedom and balance down that left side.

Exactly this, it was the same when Jacko got dropped for no reason and Evans came back in. Look what happened there!

It’s a shame you’ve dragged some people into arguing hypotheticals. You’ve been awfully quiet since we started winning, almost like you’re not a fan at all. :face_with_monocle:

It is a topic worthy of debate though. I know I’m torn between DD, who has been first name on the team sheet for the last 2 years, coming back and on the other hand breaking up a winning team. It is a genuine debate.

It’s a shame it has to be interwoven with nonsense like 3-0 down to Barrow after 12 minutes.

But he’s not fit and in contention again just yet is he? Will our winning streak continue until he is? If not, it won’t be a “winning team” he’s trying to get back into when he is ready to play again.

Besides which, we’ve been tempting fate having only 3 fit CBs available for 3 places (and no cover on the bench) for the last 5 games. Will that, and their form (they have done remarkably well together), last for another 11? If he doesn’t go straight back into the starting XI, he does 100% make the match day squad.

Few weeks yet, was told back end of March when he was first out of the team, depended on whether he needed surgery.

Farquharson sooner than that, probably another 2 weeks or so.

I like DD . He would be my CB but I don’t think LCB is his best position. As for Allen’ s corners if only one goal has comr from them I am surprised but even so with him and Hutchinson on duty we give no respite to the defending team. Faal’s goal last Saturday being a good example. Their keeper had been battered from
numerous corners and was nowhere when the ball was headed in.

My mistake I forgot the Grimsby one for PF…plus Faals Saturday :+1:

I agree but I also think he’s in our best 3 and of those three he’s best equipped to play left more than the others….

Although of course the best 3 CBs head-to-head individually aren’t necessarily the best 3 CBs playing together as a unit.

We are not too far apart on this but perhaps rather than debating the merits of individual players we should praise the management for their shrewd recruitment which has given us 5 decent central defenders and a quality utility player to choose from when all are fit.

Yeah I couldn’t disagree but I’d argue no matter what combination it’s a stronger one with DD in it….

And not had a single reply to this yet……

I think positionally TA is better than DD at LCB but it is marginal. I think in most other aspects of their game there isn’ t much to choose. That is really praise for TA rather than criticism of DD .

The thing is it isnt just about form, mentality is another area, at the moment the young back three are playing without fear, if they make a mistake they won’t be replaced as there is no one else fit, there is no expectation and until now we were chasing play offs not defending a spot.
As we climb the league pressure and expectation rise which could bring an element of fear into there play. Once a DD or Priest appear on the bench the dynamic changes again.
Once the closing stages of the season are upon us the need for the experience DD and the Priest bring will be vital. It is upto MS to manage this, but at some point I expect both to return to the starting line up at some point

I was going to mention this, but I’d have to watch Taylor Allen a bit more to assess if it really is the case or if it is just brain bias because we have been winning.

Generally though at our level, poor positioning isn’t uncommon and things like strength and pace and athleticism become more important.

Anyway, these are decisions for the manager when the time comes. I agree with someone above, I think it was AndyTaylor, the sooner they are back and available the better, because we are so low on numbers in that position now.

Ive been in football, a long time and when your club captains fit, he plays.

Jose Mourinho didnt pick John Terry when he was fit to play after coming back from injury. Picking a player over a team that is in form would be silly.
