The Locker

Right next to the M6, and in the centre of the country, is perfect for people to get to and away from the event.

Oh yeah if you are talking nationwide I guess. Hopefully if we are hosting events like that it will wash it’s face. I was thinking more locally and with what surrounds it.

It’s a fine matchday facility and a marvellous benefit for memebers. If you went every game it works out about £1 a time so half the price it was in its previous incarnation with far more certainty about where the money goes.

And if a pound is too much or you don’t go that often and five pounds is too much then everyone will have benefitted because demand in other areas of the ground is substantially lower. Getting a pint in the stadium suite no longer a game of World Cup patience.,

All of that makes it a very positive thing in and of itself. We’ve been moaning about the matchday experience for years and with the DJ, live music and the ample big tellies it’s a really fine addition.

If we can monetise the facility during the week and on Sundays then that would be a bonus. But if those attempts fail then it doesn’t undermine their reason for being. It has succeeded in its primary purpose of improving matchdays for loyal supporters. It will have also increased match day revenue.

I don’t really get why it not making money on Wednesday night is a biggie. There are a lot of facilities within the ground that only make a turn on match days and are there for us.

We’ll do more test and learn stuff on non matchdays ( and don’t forget we do alright when Villa Women play) and I hope we find a magic formula, But let’s not dismiss it because we can’t get the lads from the hotel to pop down for a pint during the week.

I think it works for people in the West Midlands, not just those travelling from miles away.

Easy to find, get to and park.

If using public transport then there are trains from New Street every 20 minutes and Bescot Stadium Station is a short walk.
I can see the locker augmenting the Stadium suite facility that I understand is busy most days.

It’s absolutely is busy most days, but I think that’s more of a draw than a jazzed up garage.

I don’t think anybody has denied it’s a match day benefit. I literally said that in the post.

Hmm. Your point was if moves queues from one bar to another. Unless tons of people are paying a fiver to go in for the mad thrill on a match day, if anything it’s just spreading the queue out. Yes you might serve a few more pints but you’re also manning an entirely separate area to do so.

I think I outlined that pretty clearly here:

I don’t think anyone is dismissing it, I’m talking about the value it brings and what the argument was at the time for spending a ton of money on it versus using it elsewhere. Seems the goalposts have moved and now it’s “well what do you expect it’s only a match day bar!”

Well that wasn’t the story at the time :man_shrugging: I mean, even another corporate facility to go along with our two other corporate facilities is a far cry from what people were saying they hoped for in the thread talking about the renovation.

I move all the stories around all the time.

Not because I’m two faced. But because I forget what I was particularly happy or vexed about day to day, let alone in six month cycles.

But on the new bar, this evening I think it’s a good thing. And over a two year contract we have probably spent £300k on a striker. He sits on the bench looking pissed off most weeks. Far less enjoyable than the jazzed up garage.

I don’t think it’s a bad thing. I think it’s a rather unimpressive area that won’t make us any extra cash to go on and buy those unhappy 300K strikers in the future, which is what people argued it would be at the time and why it was worth the investment (and by extension why it making money on a Wednesday, or indeed this case a Saturday night which should be bread and butter for a bar is important) but that does allow people to buy a pint without queueing on a Saturday.

I could even dust myself down and do a gig

Unfortunately, it’s a cashless venue

Glad you didnt say grooming

Early days Much better to have a place for fans to meet up on match days and potential for future gigs and a corporate venue. And much better than watching it dacay every year even if it just wipes it’s own arse for now imo.

Regarding the £5 entry fee, it is steep, but I dont get why people wouldn’t pay £30 for a club membership. It’s a no brainer really, 6 visits and its paid back your money with all other possible benefits.

Perhaps 10% off a pint for members might be a good idea

Exactly what I will be doing next season. £30 is decent for the whole season including cup games and other benefits on match tickets etc .
Flouting fans will argue about the £5 entry . But that is the price you get if you don’t attend games regularly and why those who do are happy to pay it .

Shouldn’t be a single fee home or away, free entry with match ticket & first beer half price. See how we go.

Let’s do some good cos financially times are awful

Yeah it does well on a matchday already let’s make it free overpacked and let’s wait 30mins to be served.
That’s why you pay a membership.

Busier the better no? Isn’t that the point?

Enough scope round it to have a courtyard with bars outside if necessary. Stockport have a very successful one if I recall

£30 a year is very reasonable.
£5 a visit is not .
But everyone has got a to make the most sensible decision financially for themselves if attending regularly!.
