The Mat Sadler Thread

I still struggle to believe this thread was created on 23rd September when Sadlers managerial reign hadn’t even registered double figures league games and now has over 2,000 posts when he’s only been in post for a third of a season.

Sadler was the choice of very few fans, so it is understandable that this thread exists.

I think we would be crazy to sack him, even if we are relegated, I would probably stick with him next year.

His win percentage of 27% is abysmal, but unless we sack the people who appointed Sadler there is no point in giving them another chance to pick the wrong man.

Decent penalty taker though! :eyes::joy:

And he plays for Monserat… :frog::coffee:

You can’t sack the owner of the club though???

True, so there is no point in sacking Sadler is there?

His replacement will be just as bad, if not worse, because the people in charge of appointing him are idiots - they must be idiots, or they would not have appointed Sadler.

So just stick with MS when theres a serious chance of relegation ? Just because theres no point sacking him

We’re as close to the play-offs as we are relegation, so you will also agree there’s a serious chance of promotion too??

Just looked at our upcoming fixtures, two almost certain away defeats at Barrow & Notts County.
After Saturday whilst we don’t play, by 5 we ‘might’ be in 19th spot and ‘might’ be only 4 points clear of the bottom two.
Therefore FGR & Tranmere at home HAVE to be wins otherwise we may be in serious trouble.
Fellow posters have said above that we are too good to be in any danger of relegation. We are playing well, but, we are losing by bleeding goals, usually within minutes of the start of a game, as a direct result we are constantly & regularly needing to score 2/3 goals to avoid defeat. I bet both Rochdale & Oldham thought in the middle of November that they too were ‘too good to get relegated’.
Sadler and his merry men have to produce, with coaching, an ability to turn ‘playing well’ into winning, if he can’t I fear for our future when it is almost certain that we will lose both DJ & Draper in January.

If you think we have a chance of promotion, then you can get 50 to 1 at Bet365, whereas the best price for relegation is 20 to 1.

I never bet, but think that the odds offered for relegation are generous, since I would say that we have a one in five chance of going down this season, whereas 50 to 1 is about right for promotion.

Theres no chance of playoffs at the minute

If you were 7 points from the playoffs at this stage and you had a good manager , you had consistency , you had a team that could half defend , you had one or two inuries , if you played your best players and knew how to change tactics to play the opposition or change tactics in game then ordinarily you wouldnt be worried but sorry to say we have none of them so at the minute were a lost closer to relegation than we are promotion.

If MS turns it round and somehow puts a string of wins together ill be one of the first to hold my hands up and say sorry Mr Sadler i got it wrong ypu were right but at this present time and since the sutton game hes shown me hes nothing but incapable

So no i wouldnt agree

8 wins in 41 league games in 2023, so probably not unless Sadler can pull off a miracle to rival Sir Ray.

Relegation scrap far more likely given how things are. We would need a management turnaround (with or without Sadler) along the lines of when Roy Keane took over Sunderland and took them from bottom 3 to promotion.
Hurts to admit that I just don’t see that happening.

He can start by playing DD and McEntee as the defensive partnership moving hutch into the number 10 role partnered with Stirk in the middle knowles and RAM as the wide players

The playoffs is top 7 and relegation places the bottom 2.

Now do how close we are to the top 7 as we are to the bottom 7 to give a realistic view of where we are in our quest for mid table mediocrity, otherwise it’s a totally meaningless stat.

I get your point but you can still get promoted finishing 7th, you can’t get relegated finishing 7 off the bottom so it isn’t a meaningless stat, it’s a fact.

I don’t agree it’s a meaningless stat, it was merely challenging those posters who seem sure there is a very real threat of relegation, and given we are equally close to the play-offs as we are the relegations spots surely we have to also agree that there is also cause for looking on the upside that there is also a possibility that we can still attain a play-off spot. Personally I find both scenario’s highly unlikely.

Yep wouldn’t take much to turn it either way. However, my money’s on an improvement, not on going down. Oh and that doesn’t mean I think we’ll go up, nice as that would be.

No because i explained our failings and why we are more likely to be relegated than break into the top 7 l

This coupled with the fact there are fourteen teams above us imo who play better football get better results and can grind out results

4 season ticket holders in my house we brought 4 tickets imo that’s how it should be when tickets are restricted to smaller amounts, we could have brought a further 4 but won’t as I don’t believe it’s fair, imo members won’t even get chance to buy one they’ll be gone.

MOre likely?? Fair enough I can understand if you think on the balance of probabilities we are more likely to go lower than currently than we are to improve, even though I disagree with you. However on previous posts you’ve said we have ‘no chance’ of the play offs’ and a ‘serious chance’ of relegation, your glass is seriously half empty.
