Surely his issue would be with DC? He played here in the covid season and then was released so was a bit bemused to see him so pent up when scoring for Accy and wanting to shush everyone in the crowd.
Clearly a decent league two player now. However in 20/21 he wasn’t. Same as Adebayo being miles off a premier league striker three years ago and now through hard work and a team taking a chance he is.
That’s nothing to do with the club, the statement from Boycott is probably from the end of the season and with no football being played at the moment, they have to keep putting out daily content, which they probably get two weeks worth of articles out from one old statement.
The article doesnt state that we’re only looking for players in the loan market this summer anyway, it says that they’re looking to continue bringing in good loan players, like they have done over the past 2 years, highlighting the best ones.
Just you trying to put a weird spin on things as usual to have a pop at Trivela
How about a press release saying that we have identified some targets that we need to strengthen the squad, some of which will be permanent signings, supplemented with a few loans. Let’s not rely on loan signings again, if they do well, they will be recalled by their club in January, especially if their club is in League 1 or 2 - a similar standard to us.
In some respect the club can’t win when it comes to loans. Those that don’t come off are seen as a waste of time, money and the research will be questioned. Those that do come off have the recruitment strategy questioned if they end up returning to their parent club
I’d rather be in the second boat as it means the club are doing something right by identifying players that come in and make an impact straight away and we don’t carry any dead wood. We’ve been unlucky that likes of Draper, DJ and Bennett have made such an impact that their parent club want them back (for mixed reasons) but that’s something that it out of the clubs power. Very rarely will there be a season long loan without a break clause in January, and if the shoe was on the other foot I’d be criticising the club if they didn’t do similar.
It also depends on the market we’re shopping in. Players loaned from Leagues 1 & 2 are likely to return if they’re doing well as there’s a better chance that they’ll make an impact at the parent club (Draper and Bennett). Compare that to the likes of Dave last season with Stoke in the Championship and Rushworth a few years ago in the Prem, it’s less likely they’re going to break into the first team so there’s a bigger chance that they stay if doing well (or obviously get loaned out higher up the ladder)
Definitely copped abuse on social media too. Following what DC said of course, but still.
How would you know, he wasn’t played? Plus not many are at 19, and I’m pretty sure the way to nurture that talent is not calling them out in public.
Always hate the “but Adebayo” argument. For a start he was praised by some at the time he was written off, and two nobody was asking him to be a Premier League footballer, we are talking League Two. The manager and coaches are supposed to spot talent, at the time and develop it. Spotting Premier League talent might be a stretch at our level but I’m not sure his development curve is so steep he never looked like a League Two player to begin with. He’s proved that that management team completely failed in his case.
Yes, I agree - I made the same point above. If we get a player from a Premiership or championship club, then they are usually young and need experience in league football. They are very unlikely to be anywhere their parent club’s first team squad and so are unlikely to be recalled. But, when we sign the likes of Draper and Bennett from teams of a similar standard to us, we are just getting these players into some sort of form, ready to go back in January and help their parent clubs immediately. DJ was in a different category: very little chance of playing regularly for Mansfield but recalled just to spike our guns - and it worked spectacularly well!!
Just remember that players are still being paid until June the 30th, and after that , they slowly start to get desperate and lower their wage expectations.
I did just blame DCs man management - but a small section of our fans just hate anyone then cry like children when a player dares say something back. God forbid an ex player celebrate against us. Makes them froth at the mouth. Proper knuckle draggers. It’s a minority for sure - they’re a pretty loud minority though. The vast majority of our fan base are not like that and are brilliant.
I was excited when we signed him, and I thought it was telling he actually turned down a deal at Carlisle and chose to sign with us instead, but he just never looked one hundred percent fit to me. Struggled both years. Watching him play with his knee completely taped up was painful
