It’s not even got anything to do with “underlying” data. Finding a player that gets on base (bare with me, I know you don’t like baseball whilst you’re trying to give everyone a lesson on it) isn’t an obscure, underlying stat. The whole point of the concept is signing somebody who is good at that particular trait, regardless of things that drive value up, like potential, or so on.
In fact, you’re MORE likely to sign somebody older than somebody younger under moneyball, because you are solely using statistical analysis, rather than taking into account anything else, like age, potential, marketability, literally anything other than the job in question.
If you’re talking about any other approach, you’re not talking about moneyball. If you can get over your pathetic attempts at insults you might learn

It’s theory was driven by people trying the bridge the gap between themselves and clubs with bigger budgets and more clout in order to gain what edge they could.
