Send the highlights reels out, I am sure they will be queuing around the block.

I said exactly the same thing to someone by me

‘Hope’ being the operative word.

I wouldn’t worry, Sadler got it wrong one of the games, not last season, the season before.

Last season we lack depth in squad which limited the ability to rest key players. I think this is something MS is addressing this season.

It seems to me we have 2 decent players for every position in this squad.Keeping them happy might be an issue so MS needs to rotate much more than last season.

Last season we had Weir, Browne, Asimwe, and Chang all of whom were underused as well the elephant in the room, DJ.
I agree that this seasons squad looks better, but maybe apart from the forwards I think we did have enough strength in depth last season to get us over the line.

Flash would need game time if someone would take him

And then you lose the rhythms, confidence and continuity. The squad is in danger of being too big meaning decent players are losing game time with no reserve leagues (Central League) to play in.

This is the conundrum. You want cover for every position - although players like Clarke can cover two positions - which means that potential first teamers will not be in the squad. We cannot have it both ways.

In recent seasons, we have suffered by losing players due to injury and loan recall. We have to have that cover.

The worry for me is that we we don’t have much fluidity in the squad to change a game when the starting eleven isn’t working. Most of the changes made are like for like, rather than giving us something different. We still lack some natural pace to run in behind up front, areal creative force in midfield and someone who can help control a game

If the system isn’t gong to change at some point, then the personnel within it need to provide something different when things start to go south

The lack of a plan b was catastrophic last season, that’s why Sawyers gives a different option. We need a small pacy striker who can break through defensive lines.

The people running the club don’t see it like that though. There’s only one plan in town and that’s plan A. If Plan A doesn’t work then we just need to go again with it… and make it work better.

I’d argue that the signing of Hollman is the creative spark that they’ve brought in who also has a blistering turn of pace, Mellon should he sign would offer that pace in behind aswell as being pretty good all round tbh. Then you’ve got the pace of Clarke which we briefly saw the weekend who can step into midfield, so tbf to the club I’d say they’ve covered the bases of having a bit of everything in the squad (within reason of course)

Good post. We have the players this season to twerk the system when we need to. We had to on Saturday so it will be interesting to see what happens in future games . I would expect more fluidity as the season progresses as the players settle in.

Wouldn’t it be better to let the players concentrate on the football rather than introducing dance routines to complicate matters?

Cha-Charlie Lakin would be OK with it.

Could make goal celebrations more interesting, especially if paired with Groove Armada’s “I see you baby”.

The one pass he did on Saturday when he played Weir down the left

I think Sadler’s plan B is plan A with different players.
Last season plan A failed whenever the players got worn out.
We either didn’t have alternatives or Sadler was reluctant to use them.

Eventually he brought in Chang, Asiimwe, Hall and rested Lakin, Barrett and a striker.
We may be better resourced this season, but will Sadler be brave enough to make changes?

Like others, my concerns are:

  1. We need a genuine plan B
  2. Will the lack of game time create unrest.

Can’t see Gordon, Maher, Comley / Warrington (if we bring in Chang), Harper getting much game time (or even bench time) unless injuries.
