The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread 2024 II

He’s his son, makes us feel old doesn’t it

That’s why we’re short of players, they say that to every player they offer a contract to.

This isn’t my understanding of their role, I thought O’Kelly was more of a consultant on an ad-hoc basis?

Jordan lives in the US and thought he was more overall football planning for Trivela.

Maybe I’m wrong.

As an aside, the page on the Walsall website about O’Kelly joining has been deleted for some reason.

Very true! I never understand as to why those players who have maybe made quite a lot of money in the game don’t want to come to a club like Walsall just to enjoy themselves and still get a buzz of playing. Finding players with the mindset of an Austin who clearly isn’t driven by the money is getting harder. I’d put Adomah in that category where he openly admitted he wants to get to the age of 37 before he hang’s up his boots. Hopefully we can get a good season out of him before he does.

Absolutely, but they will come down to earth with a bump if they are not careful. I have said for years that support has to be earned and is not a devine right.
Have said on here a few times, this is a big season for me, as money gets tighter and I get older I am all about value for every pound I spend and if I don’t get that my mind will change.
I renewed my ST within 24 hours of them going on sale for this season. Unfortunately for BB he will now have to earn it next year.
Some of our signings have been good but I appreciate that with how many left and the amount signed we are weaker for me and I have taken into account that Oteh, Earing, Williams and Riley harldly played last season, the injury list is already substantial our bench or lack of it will be interesting today.
We already know we won’t get a full season out of Farquharson and Matt and we wont get Daniels and Comley until into September…don’t get me started on DJ! That is before we have kicked a ball in anger.
We look worryingly lightweight, that is a concern.

That said and until at least 5pm, it is first game of the season and I will be in my seat shouting the boys on. UTS

Hope we have a good season.

Chesterfield have been delivering an attractive product!

I remember at a Fans Forum a few years ago somebody mentioning Chesterfield, can’t remember the exact context but I think it was budget/spending related. Pomlett replied that we should be careful what we wish for as things at Chesterfield were really, really bad. Now look at them!

Will probably come on aswell so he isn’t dropping down to mid table league 2 anytime soon if he’s playing in the championship.

I think people need to start asking the question why the club is missing out on so many targets?

Is it the negative perception of the club to outsiders given it’s just one promotion in 22 years so a club that never really challenges or pays that well compared to competitors?

The club still seems to be operating in the Bonser era despite all the changes since relegation and that is not a good sign. Yes Trivela have made some good moves off the pitch but it’s time for them to show the same foresight with what is actually happening on the grass.

The crowd reaction at full time will be very interesting today if it isn’t three points.

We’re that desperate we will recall James Taylor just to sum everything up and people on here will still try and convince you he’s the next messi

Let’s get naughty :hot_pepper:

I have reported all summer that we have missed out on players.

My understanding is that some of it is down to wages, some of it down to parent clubs, and some of it down to us simply not being an attractive club to play for.

I know for a fact that one player did not join us because he didn’t think the style of football suited his career and progression. All footballers at this level have an eye on going up the footballing pyramid - for theirs and their family’s security. They want to be, if they can, at a club that serves their interests best too.

The last 7 days have been very worrying. I have not heard much in the last 24-48 hours. I will burrow into the players dressing room today to see if I can hear anything.

Now where’s my worms? :worm:

Our style of play is horrific, no striker wants to chase endless long balls all day!

Faal on the bench for Albion. He aint coming back 100%

I wouldn’t bet on that.

It doesn’t stop him from moving on, and it’s the first game of the season - there’ll be a few returning from injury, or not quite fit; so having him on the bench can only increase his value.

Still believe WBA will move him on this summer

I know one that does :see_no_evil:

That’s the thing really, people wanting to get behind Sadler yet it seems there are players not wanting to join this club because they don’t rate his style of play.

If that becomes a recurring them then surely the ownership is aware of that and y’know might consider eventually employing a manager who does produce a decent style of play.

We’ve seen in the past a nice style and good management tends to get around other clubs and that’s why the likes of Milan and George Evans were sent to this club from two of the biggest in World Football. That was due to the culture that Dean Smith created.

With wages the club were happy to pay a decent amount to get DJ back on a two year deal last summer so we have to assume his continual presence is causing issues in the wages stakes but then why re-sign Matt as with his age he’d want to be one of the higher paid players at the club. Gordon coming up to 30 on a two year deal won’t be a cheap signing either.
