The Official Transfer Rumours Thread 2019 summer edition

I think this is where DC has made a bit of a rod for his own back, going on, as he has since October about what he was going to do in January. All that bravado about shipping people out etc. Its not as easy as it sounds unfortunately, and predictably with half the window gone not a lot has really happened. The Wes McDonald signing was positive, but it doesn’t really represent an “in” and Kiersey leaving is almost irrelevant.

The recent run of good form may have contributed to the clubs lack of pace in the movement of players don’t you think? Me personally it just papered over the cracks we still have the same bunch of players who could quite easily chuck another bad run together.

After banging on about having money left over for January, if we don’t sign anyone this window (which is starting to look likely), we should have some decent money in the kitty next summer

Tbh I’d rather that as well than sign ■■■■■ just for the sakes of signing someone this January - about time we went for some quality than just quantity

Season is a write off, we are not going anywhere. Whilst this is not what any of us wanted, if we can save £50K in this transfer window and put it towards the summer budget or the freehold, then so be it.

Shame because the rest of the season becomes a dead rubber as we slowly creep towards 50 points or whatever is needed to stay in the division.

This is true…sad…but true plus January has always been a window where a lot of players prices/wages are over inflated looks like stagnation in mid table and try again next season then :weary:

Personally I hoped the improved results would galvanise a bit of urgency to get a couple of quality siginings in, help build some momentum, and keep alive the slim play-off hopes. Its been a very strange season, as other posters have mentioned we have to be bang on it to win games and get the apparently fine-margins working in our favour, when that happens we are diffucult to beat and sound defensively. But then we have so many bad days when we are just rolled over, six league games now this season we’ve conceded 3 goals. To me that’s down to the tinkering.

I agree with what people are saying about bringing players in this season now, any loan players would be a waste of time in my opinion we might as well play our own kids and give them experience but I would have thought it would be worth bringing in permanent signings for them to get used to Clarkes ways and the way we play, whatever that is, ready for a promotion push next season hopefully because I dont think I could stand more than one more season after this one in league 2

It has been an extremely strange season one minute we don’t look a million miles away and then we look…a million miles away I’ve not been on here long but when you have people who’ve watched this football club for longer than I’ve been on this planet saying it’s the worst half of a season they’ve ever seen and you look at the table and we are less than 10 points from the play offs it highlights to me how very poor this league is and I don’t want to be here for too long the teams are poor and the officials are even poorer.

:flushed: Oops! :man_facepalming:t3:

:smirk::sunglasses: If you start enough rumours, one’ll come good eventually. Pity it’s not for Walsall though! :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Not liking it much. I know it’s better to save money for later, but sometimes it’s good to check younger players from neighbour clubs and maybe loan them to check, it they will be ok and convince them, they can play here (it can be said, it worked previously). But ok, not now. Still one central midfield should be added, just to play this season and not look towards relegation spots.

What do we think that our top earners are on?

Well last year they were on 2.5k, I know that much.

I would have a stab in the dark at no more than 1.5k this year. You never know though.

Around £400k a year?

I’d go along with 1.5K a week I’d say Wes is on that now.

I heard Clarke was on a ridiculous 3k, Sinclair being the only other player above 1k in the squad

1k a week I’ve been told and that’s with bonuses there’s 3 on that one of them is McDonald the other 2 you can probably guess.

That would sound more realistic although I suspect we at least matched what Bristol Rovers offered.

Sinclair and Guthrie?

I don’t have a clue what the budget is but roughly the same figures keep getting bandied about. The reality is if you’re paying footballers around 1k a week (1.2 m divided by 20 something players = that) then you have to have a Graydonesque approach if you are going to be successful. It HAS to be square pegs in the corresponding hole, and players drilled to death to know their jobs so they can get the better of the big budget better quality teams elsewhere in the league. Does DC take this approach?? Not for me, too many mistakes (however honestly admitted), learning from them hasn’t occurred yet in my opinion. Still want to see the man succeed, still like having him as manager etc etc, but he as well as his players, and possibly his chairman have a way to go if success even at this poor level is to be achieved.

As much as Dc admits his faults I can’t help feeling that they were blatantly obvious in the first place. You don’t need 6 coaching badges to come to the conclusion that Norman has been playing really well and such should retain his place. I personally am a 20 stone bloke, last played football 15 years ago and the only badge I posses proves that I had the ability to collect a rubber brick from the bottom of a swimming pool whilst wearing my pjs some 20 years ago.
I have digressed but as much as DC calls out the players for weak minds, he himself needs to be strong minded and choose a player in form (Norman) over his captain/friend/loyal servant, for the good of the team.
