I would imagine a few folks might ask the question how can we afford to borrow £7m whilst having more or less the same circumstances as we did in 1995 when according to the club’s own official history we couldn’t manage a couple of hunderd k in back then. I actually agree, we should just forget it. The only chance we ever had was back in 1995 and Bonser snaffled it, there was always a hope that he might contrive a way of uniting the club with the freehold, (as it also says in the club’s official history was his intention) at a figure much lower and “do-able” than the market value, but Pomlett has now confirmed that this isn’t happening and its going to be the full value at quite a few million, so I agree forget it its not a realistic aim for this regime, and the idea that we could simply make a few savings here and there to “save up” the money is about as ridiculous as me cutting down on beer to pay my mortgage off.

To me Pomlett should have all possibilities on the table, including re-location, the fact that he doesn’t appear to leads me to the suspicion that his remit, and indeed maybe a condition of his purchase, is to facilitate Bonser’s last big pay-off…or to keep the status quo ticking nicely along, win-win for Bonser, game over.

Would you agree that we all got a little bit carried away with it all geordie? I throw myself into that mix by the way before people say anything.Because let’s be honest it could have been anybody taking over after Bonser and we would have all loved it anyway because of the nature of the man and what he’s done to destroy our football club. That day in Northampton we were all to a man women and child so overjoyed with his reign coming to an end that I don’t think we seen the actual fact that Leigh Pomlett hasn’t really got any money to really take full control as I call it of the club(sorting freehold out) and that nothing as regards payments have actually changed at all we had a league 2 budget in league 1 but managed to somewhat get away with it for that long that now it’s happening it’s hard to swallow.

But relocation would cost more than buying the freehold wouldn’t it?If we cannot buy the freehold we certainly cannot afford to build a new ground at around £20 million can we?
The idea of purchasing the freehold in chunks make sense to me and that is certainly the current plan.

Yep, but don’t forget it was Pomlett that mentioned uniting the club with freehold when he took over, so I think we were entitled to be optimistic based on what he said and the idea that he might have had some realistic plan to put into action, its only last week that the reality of what this is going to cost has been mentioned, and reading between the lines I don’t think Pomlett’s even at first base as to how he’s going to do it. Ok go back to his original glib assertions about having investment lined up when we get back in L1 along with the appointment of DC, again much casue for optimism, until it comes to the reality of our transfer windows, the actual football, and now the manager saying he hasn’t even got a top 10 budget! I think the plan (such as it is), is to sign and cultivate a crop of young players, see Perry, Nolan, Bates, etc in the educated hope that it all comes good maybe next year, could you really call that a strategy when there will always be clubs in this league that will go out and spend big on proven players? Don’t get me wrong I would absolutely love to see it work, but it doesn’t look like a plan to me more of a hopeful punt. And I would have much more “Smithesque” faith in it if we had a manager with a clear vision of how he likes his teams to play, I just don’t see that with DC.

Only because it is mentioned at every fans forum. One of which he was present at too. Let’s not forget that he said many clubs pay rent for the ground so he doesn’t see it as such a massive issue but also said he knows how much of a big issue it is to the fans.

Is it? I don’t know. I agree relocation would cost more than buying the freehold you would think, although there are funds available when it comes to building stadia so with that taken into account it might not cost that much more, plus you end up with a brand new ground that might more realistically be part of a long term strategy to grow the football club in the way that Pomlett said he wants to. All I’m saying is all possibilities should be up for discussion, not just the ones that involve paying vast sums of money to Jeff Bonser via his pension fund.

Frustrates me sometimes because during negotiations there must surely have been figures mentioned plans in place or was Pomlett just somewhat star struck and thought my god I get chance to be the chairman of my football team the club I’ve loved for years without really planning properly for anything at all which would surprise me being a business man as he is and has been for many years. As you’ve mentioned he has investment when we reach league one and we would be even more investable with a youthful crop of talent that in the end to new investors would surely be seen as a way to get a return on their investment by selling them anyway such is the Walsall way anyways time will tell let’s see what happens next season this seasons over for me now because we keep changing things around even when we win he makes at least one change so to me there’s not going to be consistency with and inconsistent team selection.

That’s what makes me suspicious, make it look like its all about the fans, play to the gallery. What’s done is done, Bonser contrived a water-tight situation that put his financial riches before the interests of Walsall FC, and while he was running the club as well he was always going to get criticism, so what does he do? Sells the “club” to Pomlett and exits stage left, suddenly its Pomlett’s job to deal with those pesky fans, but at the same time pay the bills.

Suspicious of what? The fact is JB could not lose whoever took over the Club however I think LP is a genuine guy who will do his best for the Club. You may think differently which is your prerogative but for the sake of our Club I hope I am right.

Suspicious of what the outcome would be if we ever reached a scenario where what’s best for the football club was opposed to rather than aligned with what’s best for Jeff Bonser. I agree Pomlett comes over as very genuine, and like you I hope he has a fruitfull and progressive time as chairman of Walsall FC. For me its started poorly, but its early days, however I would like to see a LOT more action on the stuff that’s eminently achievable in the short term, both off, and most certainly on the pitch

If we cop £3-3.5 million for Henry it will be a big step towards securing the freehold. It should be the priority.

Fair enough, but realistically why would Pomlett set himself up for a potential massive fall just for the benefit of Uncle pension pot? What’s in it for him?

I want him from Shrewsbury he’s just finished that cross superbly

I’ve got a feeling we are gonna announce a signing tomorrow

I think we will get 2 more in before next Friday

What did DC say now an experienced winger and a striker mate?

He said definitely an experienced winger, and a striker if the right one becomes available.
