The un-Official Winter Transfer Rumour Thread

I wouldn’t mind us getting Sawers or a Sawyers esque player for the second half of the season.

Doesn’t suit our style but I forsee different kind of games in the second half of the season where teams may come and sit men behind the ball against us at home. Having a different kind of midfielder who can dictate and run a game against a team like that would be very useful to have. We already have 4 central midfielders (though only two currently) who can play the box to box 8 roles, but not any that can put their foot on it and run a slow tempo game against a low block.

Obviously they’d have to come in not expecting to play every game though.

Get what you’re saying but wouldn’t make sense given our identity. I reckon Lakin will start to fill in the Comley/Stirk role as he’s been absolutely fantastic at it

If we’re letting one of our midfielders out on loan, you would imagine with hall out, earing potentially out that we would be bringing 2 midfielders in. Potentially with cleary going back to wba and maybe DJ or Lowe going back to stoke. We would have to bring to forwards in. Going to be a busy few weeks. I’d imagine we’d get things moving ASAP

Given the Ben Sadler links with Morecambe, I can see RAM going on loan there.

On the subject of the Shrimpers, I think that there is weight in the argument that we might get JJ McKiernan in on loan from Lincoln City. He did really well at Morecambe last season and at 22, would be a good player to have to fit in with the high press of Sadball.

Unless Trivela are willing to fork out 500K for Draper(that’s the latest fee Lincoln wanted for him), I just don’t see Trivela shelling that kind of money out imho.
Freddie was a great player for us, why Lincoln recalled him just to sit on their bench is beyond me, apparently, he hasn’t done much more since for the Imps.
Is it worth it? Only if Nathan is recalled from Stoke, and only if Draper can recapture the same form when he left us.

I think the response by the York City chairman to the bbc radio north yorkshire sport post was a retort to the implication that Chesterfield is his destination…

500 grand? Not a chance anyone is going to pay that

He is apparently from a village not all to far from Leamington Spa area

They paid 350k for him . I just don’t see Walsall paying a decent fee for a 27 year old who has never played league football. If it’s a nominal fee maybe worth a gamble but can’t see York selling him for peanuts .

With 6 months left on his contract 100k should do it

I might be wrong, but I’m pretty sure they didn’t @Mattyr79

Did you get that from transfermarkt.co.uk?

That’s to do with transfer value, not transfer fee…

Isn’t that what Mansfield wanted for DJ and we refused?
I think 50k and a pre-season friendly is more appropriate.

Also, didn’t we refuse to pay Fylde a fee for Barrett in January 24 because he would be out of contract in the summer?

Possibly but 100k is probably the going rate now. I think he’s worth a punt. Goals have only dried up somewhat this season as he’s been playing wide. We’ll see…

Looking back it was undisclosed but the rumours were between 250/350k when they signed him from Scotland .

York fans generally seem to speak really positive about him as a player , does look to have qualities we don’t have in direct and quick running power so could be an interesting punt !

I’d be happy getting him until the end of the season I think we need another decent midfielder.

I know that we don’t play with wingers but anyone who went to the preseason friendlies will tell you that Bobby Kamwa looked good (especially the Tamworth game when he scored a beauty of a free kick).

I know that Kamwa went to Newport and he even scored a hat trick for them recently.

Obviously, that ship has sailed now, but it is interesting that Dipo has been playing wide for York City to make room for Ollie Pearce. Now that they have signed Josh Stones, a traditional number 9, he may well need to look elsewhere.

From what I’ve read, he played very well against Tamworth, recently. Given our close links with them, it wouldn’t surprise me if Walsall have had positive feedback and are aware of his contractual situation.

I think raw pace against tiring legs is something that the team would benefit from to help get us over the line in tight games (away games at Bradford - that kind of thing…)

Possibly at cross purposes Matty. I was replying to David’s post regarding Freddie.

@Belphegor

I know that Freddie Draper is on a good contract, but the fans seem to have turned a little. I think that they’d take way less than the £500k quoted in the summer. With add ons, I think it would be around £175k now (but I’m no expert!). :slightly_smiling_face:

Me too . 2 and a half hundred should do it. Clubs aren’t going to be fighting each other to pay big money. I imagine that Lincoln might want a sell on though.

I wonder whether they’d take £50k as a loan fee with an obligation to sign in the summer (for a further £200,000) should we get promoted…

Sometimes, in business/football/life, you have to speculate to accumulate.
