Trivela Group Takeover

Not too many people seem bothered by this; for context Corsair are quite a big deal in the world of computer hardware. Established in 1994, in 2021 they had a net income of $100m. Leaf through any PC magazine and you’ll find their products. They’re not some small outfit who won’t notice or care if a logo has been used without their permission.

If, and it’s a big if, they do have some involvement with Trivela, why would they allow use of their logo? Why would a computer hardware company want to associate its brand with a fourth division football club? Possible, but odd if it does turn out to be the case.

I noticed it straight away because I see the logo every day. And yes, my keyboard does need a clean.

What’s weird is Corsair is a pirate ship hence the sails. Trivela is a type of outside foot pass in football so why sails at all? Makes no sense?

Ah after a bit more reading Vela means sail therefore they have gone for Tri Vela as 3 sails rather than Trivela as one word. Then used a similar logo to Corsair for some reason.

Tri is three, and Vela is a constellation represented by the figure of a ship’s sail.

Yea I was looking up it’s meaning as one word rather than two put together!

Why not us? You could argue with many other clubs being bought we were one of the few left on the shelf. In addition we are at our relatively lowest ebb with infrastructure that is above our current position. All attractive points for an investor.

The bit about Pomlett is a fair shout, however given this investment group have a plan to invest in other football clubs globally it won’t look good if they make a pigs ear of the first one (us) that they throw their lot in with. Pomlett becomes more of a reference point in regards to English football and Walsall as a town for the new owners to call upon in my view.

Maybe it’s a placeholder that nobody thought about. Not even sure if there’s a copyright on that either, as it’s a common sail set. Anyway, back to sorting my belly button fluff, which is way more interesting than this diversion.

Rather a catty and defensive response!

Being a bit of a sceptic i would say all the land that the club is built on and it’s strategic positioning COULD have something to do with it? after all, they ARE an investment company?

Spot on.
What’s the worst thing that can happen?

You’re welcome to your interpretation.

Directly from the Corsair brand guide.

Seems like they care about their logo to me. They might not bother issuing a cease and desist though, because as you say, none of this is very interesting.

Perhaps because there’s no overlap between the two, it’s just not worth Corsair giving shedloads to corporate lawyers.

If they invest £X and get us into the championship, then they’ll be hoping to sell us for 4 x their investment.

I would imagine they’ll review progress in 2 years before they buy the ground. If we ain’t in League 1 by then they’ll be questioning LP’s sales pitch.

Maybe you’re right. Seems a risky thing to do considering you could just create a placeholder logo for perhaps even less effort than copying and pasting one from Google images. If it does come to something there will be wails of why closer inspection wasn’t paid.

I’m still a bit stunned that Exile not only finds this - related to one of the biggest events in our club’s recent history - uninteresting, but also that he felt the uninterest so strongly he just had to let us know. I’d have thought discussion would be encouraged by a Moderator.

As a graphic designer this has really concerned me and I can’t stop thinking about it. There seems to be no link whatsoever with Corsair so to me the logo has been quickly knocked up on the cheap by a designer who thought they’d get away with copying another logo. I can’t find any other explanation. Also the Trivela website is really lacking content, these guys seem to present themselves more unprofessionally than our lot which is a worry.

At least Corsair aren’t a massive form from America and American companies don’t love a good day out in Court suing each other…

Judging by the website it’s been knocked in 10 minutes with not much thought. Same as the logo, it’s probably not a pressing matter for them though.

For what its worth do the EFL have to approve the takeover? Whereby they do the neccesary background checks or has this been completed beforehand?

You’re welcome to discuss, and feel free to bury pithy comments rather than @ me for comment.

Why is the logo in any way, shape, or (untrademarked) form relevant to the discussion about our club’s future? It’s a diversion, and that’s it, and while you can quote a style guide for a brand all you like, that doesn’t make it exclusive. Feel free to dig through any database you can find to prove me wrong, as frankly I really don’t mind, as this is the only tiniest bit relevant to our future, and we’re not paying the legal fees, if any.
