Uncle Albert Signs

i concur with both Andy Petterson AND el nombre

The club have pullled off a masterstroke by retaining Adomah’s services for another year. He’s a great professional and role model, a superb squad player to have in the group. That said I don’t think he was always used as effectively as he could have been last season, for me his best position is as a conventional winger. Whilst we don’t generally play with wingers we did become too rigid and predictable last season and having a plan ‘B’ to fall back on in games, in system and personnel, or even to start games with would be a good step in the evolution of Sadball and in striving for solutions to maintain a successful promotion push through the entire campaign.

We all know it’s not going to be likely and there is the problem.
One of the many disappointments of last season, Trivela and the board failed to replace Sadler and his coaching staff.
By failing to do so, it’s going to be same old, same old this season, but this time without Nathan Lowe!

Glad a good player has signed up.

Sad that he’ll be completely wasted in the wrong position for most of the season.

Yeah certainly play off zone or just outside and he stays.

I’m thinking more stuck in 14-16th for months like seemingly for about 80% of the existence in this division since 2019.

Basically similar to when he first came in. Looking back at Sadler’s first 15 games and he had the odd good win v Stockport and at Salford. He also had 4-0 down away to Sutton at half time, 2-0 defeat at Swindon, 1-3 home defeat by Wimbledon…

20 points from first 16 in 23/24 so that would be bang average mid table and bottom half.

We know league two is probably the tightest of all the pro leagues for tight margins so it’s one of those where he’s out for being bottom half…yet only 5-6 points off 7th so all to play for with the next manager having 2/3 of the season left.

Opinions and all that.

I really can’t predict how next season will be until the squad is assembled, but after last season, I see no reason whatsoever why we can’t be pushing for promotion, providing we recruit some decent players (which I trust that we will).

I’m also not all doom and gloom about Sadler like many on here. I expect him to be a better manager given the experience of last season.

I’m going to hold you to that bold last sentence belph, and I will remind you if Sadler fails miserably again, I honestly hope you are right, which would mean our chief head wobbler had learned some football nous, we shall see.

I’ve been pondering that point for a week or two myself and am very much undecided on it

I seriously hope he’s learned from it but the total and utter radio silence from him is feeding a feeling of his ongoing inflexibility and stubbornness - I hope I’m wrong with this though…

Fair enough :+1:
Caveat is that we have some decent players, which I think that we will.

What is you definition of failing miserably, btw, so that we can measure each others predictions?

Auto place mate, nothing less

There is nothing to suggest he is learning at all. Every time we have got in a decent position, we have choked. 3 times I make it. Play offs were there on a plate in his first season, 11 points from the last 11 games.

Obviously last season, with a world record choke. Then a non show play off final.

We will be alright I guess. I think we will be top half but nothing better.

To answer your question further down. Anything less than play offs is a failure in my eyes. 3rd year in the job now.

unless we make a few very good signings my prediction would be around 12th for the coming season.

Thats ambitious atm :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

It is very easy to predict doom and gloom. It’s all “I told you so” if it goes wrong and “No one is more pleased than me” if it doesn’t.

None of us know what is ahead.

To be fair, when was the last time it didn’t “go wrong”

There is nothing easy about the past 18 years, especially last season.

I hope so but expect not.

Once the lead (in his mind) became unassailable he started doing stupid things like playing McEntee in the 8 role in midfield again. We saw in the first half of 23/24 it didn’t really work so why do it again a year later? And then starting J. Gordon in games so quickly after he’d been out for five months.

Just to clarify I’m obviously not going to be jumping up and down for opponents to score to get Sadler out but I think deep down most on here know Trivela fudged the issue after the play offs and feels inevitable it will rear up again early next season so any dissent in the stands from a poor home defeat will be on them and they’ll have to ride it.

The good thing at least is league 2 isn’t a fatal league if you have a poor start and you can still catch up with a good run, obviously I’m thinking of Donny and Bradford and where those two were in January.

I do think a good test is what he does with Albert. I’m happy he’s signed up again as he has quality and great experience but just playing him as a CF at 38 just isn’t going to cut it for 90 minutes.

Sometimes managers just have their limits and levels like players aswell. Matt Taylor hasn’t suddenly become a great manager after his poor six months as he’s done poorly at two other clubs now. Whitney couldn’t improve on mid table in 16/17 and Keates regrettably showed fairly quickly he wasn’t close to being a league one manager and now has faded from it completely after his second spell at Wrexham.
