Match thread for the Boxing Day clash with Crewe Alexandra.
I have gone for a win. A narrow 1-0
2-1 after a barnstorming 2nd half
If I’m being honest 5 points from the last 3 games flatters us. Our defence has been excellent though with only the deflected Shrewsbury goal conceded.
It’s time for the team to step it up a bit infront of what will hopefully be a bumper Boxing Day crowd.
Crewe look like they’ve lost Tezgel for a bit too.
So I’m going for 1 - 0 to the Saddlers. Pressley with the goal. Looking forward to it. COYS!
The referee for the visit of Crewe Alex is Simon Mather from Manchester. He is a well established EFL offical but one we have not had officiate one of our games since at least April 2024 if at all.
He has however officiated a couple of Crewe Alex games in that time frame, both at Gresty Road. A 0-3 defeat to Grimsby Town in April 2024 and a 3-2 win against Carlisle in January 2025.
He seems another referee who issues a fair few yellow cards, 23 in his last six games but not that many reds.
Lets see how this one goes.
Tezgel out for this one which is a bonus
What’s up with Tezgel? Injury?
Scared of Flint
The first of three tough games coming up over the festive period. Crewe first up and a winnable game at home. Hopefully a bumper crowd and lots of noise.
Crewe doing ok so would expect them to bring close to 1 k in a 7,000 crowd.
Fancy us to win a close game 2-1 .
Think we will absolutely smash them.
1-0 with 12% possession .
If Crewe don’t bring close to 2k I think it’s a poor show from them
Sold 850. On the day sales only now.
No chance mate never brought that many to bescot even when doing really well !!!
Yeah injured
Pathetic support really given it’s a Boxing Day fixture and the distance
It’s crap yes, but the trains not running really makes things harder.
For us also
Low in real terms but a quite superb following for Crewe Alex.
Busy festival period of games really need to manage minutes especially with Flint and Farquharson, i think in midfield we are OK we have enough players for rotation. Upfront is a slight concern with Jamma obviously and Pressley only just coming back from injury.
My line up would be for Crewe.
Roberts
Barratt Browne Flint Weir Jid
Comley Finnigan Lakin
Pressley Kanu
My Line up for Oldham.
Roberts
Jid Browne Farquharson Cox Harper
Warrington Clarke Hollman
Jamma Kanu.
Then for Cambridge put the strongest squad out.
4 games over the festive period what do we expect for our points haul.
Crewe - 3 points
Oldham - 1 point
Cambridge - 0 points
Fleetwood - 3 points
Should keep us in the top 3 going into January.
Tickets selling really well so looks like yet another bumper audience, Boxing Day is always a special fixture. Weather looks like it will be bone chilling so I would encourage all spectators to wrap up accordingly, layers are the key.
The game looks a really tough prospect, Crewe are another high quality L2 outfit with plenty of attacking talent that will punish any mistakes me make, fortunately we make very few mistakes and I expect our shape and discipline out of possession to be key to victory.
My Greystone Accountants key player is Aiden Flint who will have a busy afternoon and could be the difference in both boxes and my Softhand Solutions Ltd prediction is a 2-1 victory for Sadlers winning machine.
