i will be there in 20 layers. scrappy 2:1 not sure which way
Big game considering recent results elsewhere. We know Daniels and Monthe are quality defenders at this level, especially in a team that is happy to defend.
I’d be okay with a 0-0 but for me this is a big test for Sadler. We came unstuck against these types of teams last season and I want to see an improvement in our tactical approach.
I went to Oldham many times before I moved to the States, I thought Fellows Park was a dump but I was horrified when I first set eyes on Oldham’s rubbish tip - anyway, I’ll try not to disparage them too badly. It was always freezing or pouring down, it’s close to Manchester so what else is new?
It will be a tough game as always against this lot, I think we will just squeeze by the odd goal.

“running repairs”?! Probably a fracture treated with a bucket of cold water and a sponge. Nothing too serious ![]()
Yeah nothing like Flinty’s face changer last home game! ![]()
Yes, you will remember the phenomenon of the badly injured player staying on the pitch “for nuisance value”.
In fact, John Harris came to us after really breaking his leg for Wolves in only his second match. He did play once more for them before joining us, as captain for a few seasons. He died 2 years ago.
That’s an amazing find. Thanks.
It says we played dynamo Moscow 60 years ago, but the centre forward is listed as Lobanovsky. I assume this must be the famous Valeri Lobanovsky who I thought played for dynamo Kiev (his Wikipedia page says he never played for Dynamo Moscow) so why he is listed at this game is a mystery unless it was more of a Soviet Union XI going under the name of Dynamo Moscow.
If it is valeri Lovanovsky, I never knew he played at Fellows Park.
Fascinating.
Another great preview Steve. I was gutted when Mantom left in 2016. Many of us still remember the bad old days when anyone good left for free at the end of the season. Now at least we seem to get fees for some of the players that move on!
On the face of it this game has 0-0 written all over it. DD and Manny are a formidable partnership - much like when they were together for us. Smart business by Oldham to sign DD last summer and glad he’s doing well.
Sadler needs to think about resting players for the fixtures coming up. Flints played more minutes than anyone this season - but he’s replacement is likely Priestly - maybe we’ll see Stan Straw? Cox in for Weir might happen for this game or Shrewsbury. Not sure about playing Jamma for this as he won’t get much change out of the DD/Manny partnership - Kanu and Albert upfront and try and hit them with a bit of pace.
I don’t know why - but I’ve got a hunch that we will infact see a few goals. Going for a 1-1 draw.
I was at that game . Christ it’s a lifetime ago ![]()
Whats parking availability like at Oldham Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
@Andy_Petterson Cheers mate. Tend to upload a few each day appertaining to that date. If you use the search icon on that page and tap in any team or date some info should come up. Sometimes other dates /teams come up too but hopeful you will find it useful.
I went to that game. My head tells it P’d down and we lost 5-0. My head is probably wrong as usual ![]()
Well 10 out of 11 ain’t bad. Win tonight would be nice for me in my birthday week.
Still have this programme as I was at the match as a young kid now 75 where did all that time go. Still a fan UTS.
Plenty of parking is available at the ground. It’s card only contactless /chip and pin.
If your coming in off the M62 / A672(M), take the first exit off the Chadderton roundabout to the Broadway, then first proper road on the right in about 400 yds to Hilbre Avenue. It looks like a housing estate but keep on and you get to their big car park.
Don’t remember the rain but we did lose 5-0. We played another friendly - Slovan Bratislava? - and won 3-1 in an absolute deluge.
What is Boundary Park like for the away audience?
An away day to Boundary Park is one that most fans in the lower leagues of English football look forward to, as it’s a rare opportunity to visit a stadium that once played host to Premier League fixtures.
Visiting supporters are situated in the Chadderton Road End at Boundary Park, which is a relatively large single-tiered stand behind the goals. The placement of away fans in this stand is quite controversial, as for decades, this was the home to the most passionate and loud Oldham fans.
The end is covered with a roof, which not only helps create an atmosphere in the stand but also helps when the famous Manchester weather kicks in. On the other hand, the roof is supported by pillars that run through the stand, which can result in some seats having an obstructed view.
If you do manage to avoid these pillars, then the view of the action from the Chadderton Road End is actually very good bordering on superb, particularly when your team is attacking that end of the pitch.
One thing worth noting to any fan planning a visit to Boundary Park – wrap up warm! The stadium is situated on the edge of the Pennines, which means a cold breeze blows through the ground regardless of the time of year. Many fans often label a trip to Boundary Park as their coldest experience at a football match. Layers are the key, you can’t put a price on warmth.
Oldham Athletic chants and rhymes
It’s been a miserable couple of decades for Oldham Athletic supporters but to their credit, the hardcore supporters have continued to turn out for their club. If you are going to a match at Boundary Park, then here are some Oldham Athletic chants that you can expect to hear:
-
Zigger zagger
-
I’m a Bast*rd
-
Keep the blue flag flying high
-
Great escape (Oldham)
-
Rochdale is rrrrr’rubbish
-
Nah nah nah Oldham
Pubs for travelling spectators
The best pubs near Boundary Park that allow away fans are as follows:
-
The Clayton Green – Westwood Leisure Park, Westwood Way, Oldham OL1 2NA. Clayton Green is a pub/restaurant situated adjacent to Oldham Athletic’s football ground. There is a hotel on site. Reopened since COVID. It is a hugely popular hostelry much loved by home and away spectators alike.
-
The Greyhound Inn – Elly Clough, Royton, Oldham OL2 5EP. The Greyhound is in Royton on the outskirts of the town centre. It is a a friendly village pub that boasts a large beer garden with terrestrial TV. Limited bar snacks are available and abusive language will not be tolerated.
-
The Spring Vale – Spring Vale Inn, 14 Burnley St, Chadderton, Oldham OL9 0JH. Lovely clean local pub, Serves a selection of Cask Ales and a wide selection of cheap beers.
Food and drink inside the arena
Don’t expect too much in terms of food and drink on a visit to Boundary Park but the club do at least provide fans with some options which isn’t always the case at non-league level. Food options inside the stadium include burgers (cheese and beef) and pies (vegetable and meat) while there are some street food vans dotted around the outside of the stadium and in the car park.
Alcohol is served at the kiosks on the concourses around the stadium in the build-up to kick-off right through until the end of half-time. Soft and hot drinks are also available alongside a selection of snacks to accompany viewing the action (chocolate, popcorn and sharing confectionery).
I am most likely getting confused. I know we lost though lol
Sorry but the last time we tried to park on that we were turned around as being for home fans only!!
Which is stupid because trying to park locally is a nightmare, many do try the retail car park of the shopping centre close by, but beware it is strictly for shoppers only and wardens patrol constantly.
If it is -20 at the Antarctic it will be -25 at Boundary Park, notoriously freezing place to be on a December Tuesday evening, we never seem to go to Oldham in decent weather.
Hate the song they sing, ‘boys in blue’ which was Cannon & Ball’s (my favourite comedians of all time) signature tune, so I intensly dislike them singing that for their team.
Real opportunity to draw away at the top tonight, though as others have pointed out they have a miserly defence, lets hope we come away with a 1-0 win.
UTS.
