W 2-1 vs Accrington Stanley (H) - League Two - Tue 27th Feb, 7:45pm

By the looks of things Knowles picked up his 5th league booking against Wrexham which was our 18th league game so it’s possible it’s by a date rather than a game week (as the PL is), or else Knowles would’ve already served a 1 game ban.

I don’t think the two yellows at Swindon count as they carry a ban in their own right and so you can’t be banned twice for the same thing.

To complicate it further I don’t think cup games count towards a league ban. EFL Trophy and EFL Cup definitely stand alone and it’s possible FA Cup does too as he was booked in both Alfreton games.

:man_shrugging:

Yes they do. I’ve posted this before but will repeat myself, the yellow card accumulation rules (for the EFL) are:

5 within first 19 games = automatic 1 match ban
10 within 37 = 2 matches
15 before end of season = 3 matches
20 before end of season = up before the beak for them to decide the punishment

2 in the same game leading to a red aren’t taken into account in totting up as you’ve already received a punishment (an immediate 1 match ban for a first offence - 3 for a straight red), but if you get a yellow and then a straight red rather than second yellow then I believe that does count.

Before Saturday, Knowles was up to 5 as the 2 at Swindon are disregarded. The 5th came against Wrexham so was past the 19 game marker (unlike McEntee who managed to get his 5 in sooner and missed Barrow). I saw the ref show him a yellow on Saturday (dissent as he was walking away rather than for giving away the free kick?) which would be a 6th if it has been logged to the EFL - even if it was missed by the stats providers (who thought Adegboyega was wearing 26 :see_no_evil:). That means he’s now got another 11 games to get/avoid 4 more to take him to 10 and a 2 match ban.

Good explanation.

As I said, the Cup games (inc FA cup?) don’t count and are treated separately.

And to return to the original point, Knowles is nowhere near a ban

That is true - red cards do carry over between competitions (at least between league and FA Cup, not sure about ELF Cup and Trophy) but yellow cards do not (there are separate totting up rules for each competition).

he’s on 6 on the FA website, I’m assuming he is “Thomas” lol

The full list is here

although it may miss the one on Saturday.

Our back three only have 5 between them,

Huge relief, Tommy Knowles has been really good for the lasty half dozen games. Speaking to some County fans after thew game on Saturday and they thought he was our best player and would love to take him off us. I told them Plymouth were sniffing after him too and they weren’t surprised at all.

Not sure what a ninjago warrior is though?

I know you said that as a joke but, in fact, the best defenders do not commit themselves into tackles unless they have to.

Thank god the wink gave it away

Posted this before but on joke thread but couldn’t resist it this week https://youtu.be/pieK7b4KLL4?si=EV58B3fyo1qA-k9M

That’s one of the reasons some of the best defenders are ones you don’t notice much.

I used to be fascinated by Reece Flanagan pointing all the time when running around in midfield. I guess he was telling everyone else which direction we were kicking.

I think it all betrays some underlying psychological truths.

I think with Williams it was pure frustration. He couldn’t do what he used to be able to do. Like me when I play golf. I got a bit good about twenty years ago but now only play once or twice a year. When I step up to the tee, in my mind I’m as good as I was when I was good. A horrible shank later and reality bites.

With Knowles (and Flanagan) I think it’s a way of establishing a belonging at a level where they might have a degree of imposter syndrome. If I act like a top footballer and carry the mannerisms of a top footballer then maybe I’ll be seen as a top footballer. It’s more manifest with Knowles. The hand gestures, the ref baiting, the “gamesmanship” etc etc. All a bit premier league.

All of which I get. Having thousands of people gawping at you whilst you’re at work can’t be easy.

Lets get the Poundland absolutely rocking on Saturday, it’s these sort of bread and butter games which have so often been our downfall previously. Looks like a fairly low audience and there will be a tiny travelling gate so we really need to get behind the boys and show them our unwavering support. Would be great if everyone made their way to their allocated seats as the club recommends for five and twenty to three so we can crank up the atmosphere before the teams enter the arena.
